When I was young you could buy them from a sports shop. Had to be over 14.

Apparently, some religious groups just flout the law of the land.

They go by Sharia law, which entitles you to an AK47 without any form of licence whatsoever.

The only condition is that it can only be fired at non believers of a particular religion.

For reasons of public safety. Although crimes involving guns are significantly down on the figure in 2007, air weapons were used in almost half of all offences involving a firearm in 2013-14.

We aim to make sure that only people with a proper reason to have a gun can do so.  Those who would misuse air weapons should no longer have access to them.

So, why not just ban anyone misusing an air rifle from having or using one?

I've never believed in gun ownership apart from farmers and sporting shooters etc. But if I could buy a shotgun I would. If a group of 20yo males forced their way into my home I'd be no chance. Not even the cricket bat I have handily placed would do much probably just make them more angry if I hit one. If I knew how to get a shotty I would. I'd rather argue the legalities of the dead home invader in court at a later date than go through something a lot worse.

If we ever had a Zombie incident, or Alien invasions, we as a country we wouldn't stand a chance. Only thugs, robbers, drug suppliers would ever survive.
Think we should all have a weapon.

They were discussing the odd number on Radio Scotland early this morning Ron & all were equally perplexed at why it should be so.  Even £14.40 p.a. doesn't really make sense.

It's an snp directive & I think you might just have hit the nail on the head!

I bought an air rifle for £350+ not so long ago & fckd if I'm going to hand that over for nothing.

Thanks Wee Jimmy Krankie for extorting me to cough up such an exorbitant amount.

Seems strange to think that only about 100 years ago we were entitled to bear arms like they can in America.

Then the govt of the day banned them for much the same reason that the Yanks are allowed them. Funny old world innit?Crazy

protestants were allowed to bear arms under the bill of rights 17th century

the firearms act now decides law, after ww1 , along with various ammendments

cost is probably pro rata to cost of issuing licence plus a bit of profit !
