They were buying retail from west end clubs in the middle of the night, rather than wholesale during daylight hours.

They make it up as they go along. A child's dress was bought, nothing said however in a previous series one team was disqualified for buying a non-approved skeleton

if they did not buy a item it carry a penalty of £75
so the cigars cost £150, they would have been better off not buying them

I was under the impression that the penalties varied depending on the value of the item(s).

Starship, pretty sure the penalty is on top of the rrp/book price for the item so that you can't benefit from not buying items.

Seem to have smartphones but never seem to use the smart bit of them.

So if Roger The Butler is right and the fine is on top of the rrp/book price for the item so that you can't benefit from not buying items then what is the correct strategy for candidates to game the system?

Cheap item? Buy at any price -- don't waste time on discounts. 50% off a Bird of Paradise flower is peanuts, but the penalty for not buying it is several times the full price.

Dear item? Source carefully and negotiate hard; be prepared to walk away as the penalty is less significant compared to the risk of overpaying; on the other hand, a significant discount can win the task because 30% of a lot is quite a lot.

Obviously a lot of items fall in the middle, but it is a fair rule of thumb.

you did not get the tangrin so there a pentaly of £75 for that.
