Twenty years ago, it was still reasonable to believe we were heading towards a world with no racism, homophobia or misogyny. Multiculturalism was still plausible as a workable way of life. Now, with Trump about to step into the White House and Brexit on the way, it’s time to get real: zero tolerance doesn’t work.
Personally, if I could click my fingers and eliminate racism, I would. But look at Chit Chat, for example. For over ten years, the moderators have been banning people for making racist comments, and all it’s done is increase intolerance of other races.
Take sexual assault. If you tell men not to forcibly rape women, almost everyone will agree. If you tell men not to have sex with women when they’re unconscious, almost everyone will agree. But if you tell men not to take advantage of women when they’re extremely drunk (which I personally think is wrong), suddenly you have lots of men thinking uh oh, that makes me a rapist for what I did ten years ago. And if those men are already labelled as rapists, they’re just more likely to actually, properly rape a woman in future because the line has already been crossed. Look how counter-productive it was to accuse Trump of promoting sexual assault for his “grope them by the pússy” line. It didn’t even stop women from voting for him.
For this reason, I’ve decided over the last couple of days to change my position on gay adoption: I’m now against it. Almost nobody thinks that homosexuality should be illegal, and only a minority of people have a problem with gáy marriage. But having gáys adopt children is where a lot of people start having doubts, so I say keep it illegal just to appease the homophobes.
The new, pragmatic approach to social issues should be to aim for a world that’s not too racist or sexist or homophobic, but that minimizes the chance of real extremism surfacing. And ffs don’t put people in fear of losing their job for making politically incorrect comments; accept them as a small price to pay.
It was a noble idea but it’s failed totally. Political correctness must die.

And of course promote unemployment amongst minority groups, because employers view them a too hot to handle. What employer wants to spend a week defending himself in court against a charge of racism, after dismissing an employee. Who then claims racism, because the employer cracked a racist joke about him in better times. Or having to dismiss his best employee, because he said something racist about another worker. Ant group that enjoys extra protection in law, should be avoided when looking for workers. |
