When the Wellcome Fundation became a PLC I paid the then maximum of £100 per month for the maximum 5 years into their Share Save Scheme. It was a no brainer, though many colleagues did not join in.
When my option matured my £6000 secured shares worth over £100,000. |

I bought a flat in London for £5990, obviously years ago. I remember looking over the road to the estate agents at a garage. There were cars there for about the same price. Something is wrong, I thought.
By the way I found out later that the kray twins had lived there, it was a premium thirties block then. There is a picture of them outside it. When I moved in I was the only non jewish person at the owners management meetings. They had to translate for me! |

Put 20% of my pay into my pension at work (additional voluntary contributions) for 15 years.
I only started there at 41, retired in 2006 at 56. They bought my pension annuity. The company closed two year later with the pension fund only 10% funded. When I left the company I had some cash saved in additional pension, put it into shares at the end of 2008, sold the shares in 2014 for double. I got lucky. If I stayed I'd have had no job and no pension at age 58. |
