Got lots of stuff that I want to give away to a worthwhile charity but don't want to give it to a charity that throws away it's money on huge director salaries. Which charities are genuine and will use funds in the most appropriate manner. I'd like to just drop it off at a shop/office.
Mainly clothes, books and assorted bric a brac/debris accumulated over half a lifetime. I'd be happy to deliver it to different places if clothes are better for one charity than another, books to another etc.

Hi Pantsonfire,I helped out the British Heart Foundation with some voluntary work last week. How about giving some of your stuff to them.I've no idea if they have directors who are coining it but I'd guess that they probably do.Unfortunately,i'd think it would be a similar story with all the other'big' charities.Well done to you, mate anyway for doing what you're doing.

Look up the (local) charity of your choice online, imo, and then look at their annual report (it usually opens as a PDF). If you're satisfied that they aren't just a business and paying silly salaries on your hard-earned, then give to them.
S'what I'd do.

Otherwise there are loads of genuinely needy causes, some will even collect. Half an hour's research should help make you feel better about what you're doing.

I give most of our stuff to Age Concern - A few months after you give the stuff they let you know by email how much money it made.
