Wonder how many years before they work in self service in supermarkets and vending machines.
I like the old £1 coins , millions of originals from 1983 still circulating. Apparently though 45 million fakes out there. |

Talking of coins. A guy at work today had a £2 coin with '2 Pounds' written on it instead of Two Pounds. Can't seem to find anything online about it but it looked real enough to me... 2015 The Sure Shield of Britain coin. Anyone know?

Listened to a debate about fakes ,they said there was factory's producing coins in the far east but the amount of damage this does to the economy was limited ,they could simply keep withdrawing coinage and limit any new minting ,the fakers only get paid once and it costs x amount to mint money anyway .
but then a complete u-turn and a change of coin ,costing the vending machine operators millions so maybe it was a much bigger problem than admitted to . Also as soon as the new coin comes out the forgers will be on it and producing in no time . |

the chinese will knock out decent £2 coins for 30 cents a pop
the main forger of pound coins was shut down a few years back, but the fakes sloshed around for long enough you even see fake £1 coins on ebay sold as wrong dates and therefore going for over £1 funny old world |

Wasn't the "old" £1 coin hard to forge, then?
Read reasons why new on is more secure ... says, amongst other things "Hidden high security feature - an additional security feature is built into the coin to protect it from counterfeiting but details have not been revealed." So if you get one, you won't know it's dodgy ![]() ![]() ![]() |
