I voted for the UK to leave Europe precisely because I am fed up of the mild European winters we have been getting since 1975.

Mainland Europe gets it mild winters via us  ,not the other way round .

Hope it's colder  as to get rid of the insects chewing up the garden  -it's a slugfest out there.Last snow in the garden was March 2013 Cry

I like slugs and snails. I feed the cat biscuits, they love them.

Don't want any really cold weather curtailing the horse racing. My only source of additional income.

Kenny ,normally the slugs are gobbled up by the hedgehogs - but i havent seen any town hedgies for years .

I won't use slug pellets or salt  either , theyre a horrendous way for slugs to end their life  Cry    the cold weather atleast  slows down the growth .

Isn't salt supposed to be bad for you?

No, a splash of vinegar or worcester sauce.

Don't chew, just swallow whole ... go down a treat.

(PS the little boogers decimated my potato crop this year so salt, slug pellets, stamping on them would be more that justified)

thats not exactly true ,they ,like all insects do a very important  job ,its just that slugs prefer fresh tasty  grub to decaying stuff when given the choice ,climate change and mans indiscriminate use of insecticide have turned things in the slugs favour .

We have decimated  his natural predators like frogs ,toads ,newts ,thrushes ,hedgehogs ect .

Slugs eat all sorts of stuff  ,including  dog crap .

I read on an online rag that it will be the coldest winter for 50 years, but that
is probably par for the course.
It was either the Mirror, Guardian or Times

dunno why they keep coming up with those silly headlines .

Summers aren't hot ,winters aren't cold.

This isn't central USA  ffs  Cry CrazyLaugh  Then the weather girl on BBC  reckoned the temps of 15c were not very autumnal .Shocked  Hey ?  i would have said that 15c was exceedingly autumnal .  Muppets.

Back on track,  the shortest day last year was warmer than the longest day  . How does that grab you ?

fraid the long range winter f/cast is still being formulated and may not be available for some time yet .

i trust you are in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ire ?

last few years ,in the north of Britain has been very reasonable

its all about the anomalous cold blob in the North Atlantic imo .

According to local bee-keeper we will have a severe winter, apparently his bees produced loads of honey. Based in South Wales, but I reckon that must apply to the whole country.
