The point is it doesn't matter. Businesses will want their slice of the £350M and this govt will give them it.
Do you have any evidence for these assertions Pineapple or are you simply throwing darts in the dark?

Typical brexiters response of burying their heads in the sand and waiting for triple confirmed evidence rather than using their noggin. Just open your eyes, look at the number of corporations and banks assessing their position. "We might have to move as it will cost us more to operate here. How can you help Ms May?"
But no, let's go with the no running commentary line and hope for the best.

Banks do not create wealth, they are there to make money off the creative and scientific and technical ability of a nation, that's were England is unsurpassed, except perhaps by America.

Mini - German car manufactured in Cowley. Designed by a Europhile yank and his team in Germany
Honda - Japanese manufacturer, Civic and Jazz manufactured in Swindon. Designed in Japan.
Toyota - Japanese manufacturer, Auris and Avensis built in Derbyshire. Designed in Japan.
Not sure what Britain is bringing to the table here apart from assembly to be honest. I suppose we still have Jaguar Land Rover (a subsidiary of the Indian firm Tata) and Vauxhall (part of the American GM) but beyond that you're going pretty niche.

We are in unchartered territory, so nobody knows how this is going to pan out especially as nobody knows what Brexit will look like, I'm sure crags will bump all of these threads in 5 years time at 3.47 in the morning to lets us know which of us were the smart arses and which were the laughing stocks

so nissan sunderland only sell here or switzerland.
thats not an issue as even if nissan switzerland do sell to the eu its not illegal.
bt once out of the eu those cars get classed as third party...so if the swiss do decide to sell some into the eu a tarrif is imposed...based on the third country countries agreement.
if its a tax dodge then it needs to be looked at now

It's all to do with future innovations/investments regarding the next level of hybrid/ combustion alternative.
This makes perfect sense to me, for the UK to focus on and become the leading light of future innovation. Investing in research and skills to benefit the car industry in the long term.
Obviously Nissan agree.

If there are tariffs that strengthens the most inventive and creative country, that is England. Who would deny that?
dont think there is much demand for steam engines anymore and anyway if there was any tariff would be collected by the government receiving the steam engines.
nice try bt obviously deluded.

that could've been offset if tim berners lee patented the world wide web when he invented it. Then everyone in the world would had to pay england a small licence fee everytime a domain name got registered.

Nonsense, tariffs have zero effect on a nations creativity, the vast majority of countries would never invent or create anything if left to their own devices. Elton John was English, that's all you need to know.

There are almost no inventions or technical and creative and scientific advances that the English were not at the very forefront of, that is a simple fact.

Yes it is in the hands of the younger generation in Britain, are they as creative and intelligent as previous generations. Those who voted Brexit have faith in Britain they will have to buckle down and stop being so needy. Nothing is so contemptible as neediness.

we dont get the benefit of cash generated from tariffs. we get the benefits if we invent goods no one else can make.
tariffs just make it pricier to sell abroad. maybe your trying to say having a tariff actually helps sell goods?
if you are please explain lol

wish it was in the hands of the younger generation.
bt er but as you well know....non eu immigration and companies in particular search for experienced workers abroad.
wanting to be educated to a high standard has its drawbacks in this country. fees...living costs etc. you need to be well backed to improve yourself.
i think your talking in an idealistic way rather than a realistic one

I am saying that the country that invents new and innovative products is the country that becomes wealthy. A country does not become wealthy by selling things at the cheapest possible price. That simply drives down wages and conditions and well being of a good and thriving country and economy. Forget about tariffs they are meaningless and are used merely as a means to exert political influence.

A successful country does not need millions of people educated to university level. The vast majority of people can be replaced by 100 , 1000 other people without any effect.
To be s great and successful country only requires about 7 really gifted and talented people. That was never a problem for Britain in the past .

The wealth of Europe over the last 40 years is built on the creative genius of 3 or 4 young men in Californian in the 1970s They and almost they alone are responsible for stopping the slide into economic chaos , but time is now up

agree to a point but when it comes to peoples personal goals if oportunities are being red taped by prohibitive costs, companies recruiting from other nations etc what are they supposed to look forward to? a low paid job with high living costs?

So that is what I am saying. Britain needs perhaps 3 or 4 people that is all. Not millions of people. If England or the US cannot do it who can? Someone has to come up with something revolutionary that creates jobs and wealth.

Opportunities open up through new investment and skill goals, it evolves.
If the skills and are created through the UK education system and technologies are created through UK research then companies will see a UK location as a benefit.
The City will be freed up from EU corporatism also, there will be winners and losers G1 but Brexit opens up many more doors with a positive attitude to the challenge.

wrong on the last bit.
europe suffered post subprime...there yer go ibrahim .
boom and bust as settled...bottomed out. they have a great platform to grow from.
if they get some of their people back from the uk that will only help growth....and hinder us at the same time. think it would be inevitable anyway over time...but dont get why we are pushing the self destruct button now.
surely its best to micro manage in the time before that happens and then leave if we are in a position to leave?
just waffling on about how inventive we are or how we will e innovative doesnt wash.
if the figures dont stack up for companies who invested here they will move anyway....including missan

Well why doesn't the govt publish their letter to nissan?
btw the biggest irony to me is that a government that blocked the EU from imposing punitive dumping sanctions on Chinese steel, suddenly gives all sorts of undertakings with taxpayer's funds to keep the brextits happy in their fantasy world as long as possible.

If it publishes one it will be asked to publish them all won't it? Then you end up with the micro management interpretations that ask for a million responses.

Yes tt, when will it ever end. Never is the answer. I am resigned to that, even good news will be disappointing to the Remainers.
No worries Gery, but it's not really news that the Gov want to negotiate for zero tariff access. They may prioritise the car industry in negotiations and use this industry as leverage because as we know, those German manufacturers are nervous of the uncertainty also.

I imagine (I don't know) that Brexit woters voted out for a variety of reasons.
My reason was that I wanted out of a corrupt organisation (year on year critised by auditors for poor control over spending).
We live in a democracy, the majority voted to leave the EU.
That's it, move on.
But we get a never ending moan from some remainers. Do these people moan about every democratic vote that doesn't go their way?

If membership of the EU and closer integration was such a good thing why did they consistently try to deny us the chance to confirm that ?

The media and politicians, keep talking about different kinds of Brexit...as far as I am aware there is only one, in or out.
I assume we can trade with EU after we are out, but would not get tariff free trade

The EU export a lot of cars to us from Germany, France, Italy, etc.
So perhaps they agreed that all cars will be tariff free, either way?
We run a trade deficit with the EU, so in a way we would be better not trading with them at all, one could argue?

There was a reason for not starting article 50 it was to see if the economy crashed ,if things begin to look very bleak I can't see any government triggering it unless they are suicidal.
