I don't understand why people get p1ssed off at hijab. Hijab has been historically reserved for the upper classes and was a status-symbol, in some cases banned for those of the lower classes(incidentally in Iran!). Yes Humanity has moved forward but to say that making people wear hijab makes them oppressed is crap. it is not the problem, its just the symbol of the problems that women face in other countries. People act like making hijab optional will solve women issues when in reality it will do little.

By the way, I have seen the queen wear hijab-like headgear on a couple of occasions. Why does she wear it and how come its not called a hijab?

The very first line of a Google search for oppressed is: to burden with cruel or unjust impositions or restraints.

Taken from OP:
The penalty for violating the dress code ranges from lashings to imprisonment. According to Alinejad, from 2014 to 2015, 3.6 million Iranian women were detained for wearing inadequate hijabs, meaning they wore the headscarf too loosely, showed too much hair, or exposed their necklines. This past March, eight female Iranian models were arrested for revealing their unadorned heads on Instagram. A month later, Tehran police chief General Hossein Sajedinia hired 7,000 undercover agents to crack down on violators.

The hijab isn't the problem, oppressive regimes are.
