The most popular sandwich I guess is a ham sandwich,in fact I think the ham sandwich has held the number one spot since they invented sliced bread. So I can not recall a thread on chit chat about sandwiches so lets hit it guys and see can we dislodge the that popular ham sandwich from the number one slot.

I suppose the big four are
1=ham
2=cheese
3=tomato
4=chicken.
Report brassneck October 23, 2016 11:21 PM BST
but I also think that if chicken and tomato combined forces they would challenge ham for the top spotLaugh
Report Breedingmad October 23, 2016 11:21 PM BST
Tuna.
Tuna and Cucumber.
Egg Mayonnaise with cress.

A tomato sandwich? No wonder the forum has lost it.
Report Ron-Russian October 23, 2016 11:25 PM BST
as you say Ham / Cheese the most obvious, unless your a muslim Surprised

i wouldn't fancy a Tomato sandwich id be more of a Cucumber sandwich man.

1 Crisp
2 Sausage
3 Bacon
4 Chicken
Report RoyClaytonsTash October 23, 2016 11:26 PM BST
I dont mind a tomato sandwiched between two other tomatoes.
Report Owmybrainhurtz October 23, 2016 11:27 PM BST
The worst sandwich ever has to be peanut butter and jelly (or jam). To me they go together like roast beef and custard. Yuk!
Report Breedingmad October 23, 2016 11:28 PM BST
You can't help your hatred towards Muslims Ron ,are you an Atheist or R.C?
Report Breedingmad October 23, 2016 11:30 PM BST
Sausage and Banana is my mates fav but he is an Idiot like R.R.
Report brassneck October 23, 2016 11:30 PM BST
And you have to remember that you can have the sandwich with brown or white bread. Some times cafe's charge extra if you ask for the brown bread sandwich.
Report RoyClaytonsTash October 23, 2016 11:30 PM BST
Roast Chicken?

Report brassneck October 23, 2016 11:31 PM BST
And you also have the Turkey sandwich that challenges the chicken sandwich .
Report Ron-Russian October 23, 2016 11:35 PM BST
good call brassneck id agree.

i actually had Turkey today,
Report Breedingmad October 23, 2016 11:35 PM BST
A Jamaican Bacon sandwich is my fav but lets not bring culture and the advantages of immigration into the conversation.
Report Ron-Russian October 23, 2016 11:37 PM BST
Hows it hatred BM? a muslims favourite sandwich wouldn't be a Ham one

Just stating a fact Crazy

Hillel the Elder say no more...
Report brassneck October 23, 2016 11:43 PM BST
but the Ham is still rock solid number one.go to a party and the first thing you are offered is a fecking ham sandwich, ask in any café what kind of sandwiches have they got and Ham is the first word they say.
And if someone packs a lunch for you and you open it up later in the day the first thing you see is the popular Ham sandwich.Laugh
Report Ron-Russian October 23, 2016 11:43 PM BST
Muslims copying the Jews not eating Pork?
Report Owmybrainhurtz October 23, 2016 11:44 PM BST
Did you hear about the man who goes into a cafe, and there's a sign in the window that says, "We serve everything here".

So the man goes in and says, "Is that right? You serve everything?

"That's right sir" says the waiter, "You name it, we've got it!".

"Then I'd like a dodo sandwich please", says the man.

"Don't be ridiculous", says the waiter, "Don't you know there's a bread shortage?"
Report brassneck October 23, 2016 11:49 PM BST
And then again the banana sandwich can make a bold bid for the title as number one ,but only in the summer months, and they have to be eaten within a few hours or they go a little off color and end up being passed by for our famous Ham sandwich.Laugh
Report Ron-Russian October 23, 2016 11:51 PM BST
banana & peanut butters nice, would be high up in my list
Report brassneck October 23, 2016 11:53 PM BST
And even if you ask for a toasted sandwich ,you are told" we ham and cheese or ham on its own"
Report brassneck October 24, 2016 12:06 AM BST
And on the menu some advertise the Ham as freshly baked ham sandwiches, even if you go into a café at 9 am you see these signs over the counter that read" freshly baked".The whole country must be up all night baking ham.Laugh

Report brassneck October 24, 2016 12:18 AM BST
And then there are people who when asked "are you hungry" they always answer with the same statement.
"NO thank you,i had a Ham sandwich earlier".
Nobody ever says"i had a sausage sandwich earlier,or I had an fried egg sandwich earlier"its always "I had a ham sandwich earlier"
Report brassneck October 24, 2016 12:24 AM BST
So I guess I have given the betfair forumites a real headache if they think they can come out with a sandwich that can beat Barcelona of the sandwich world.i think the ham sandwich is there to stay as the number one sandwich of the nation for some time to come.

found old (5 years) Breville sandwich toaster at back of pantry this weekend.

had cheese and corned beef toastie for lunch ... yummy yum yum.

Spider or two as well.

But can you put anything else in a toastie?
Might start a thread.
Report Kit-Kat-Dan October 24, 2016 5:11 PM BST
All these suggestions and not one mention of avocado (unless I missed it) and I love chicken or tuna with avocado on a nice brown roll.

If hot sandwiches are allowed, I agree with JM's bacon & brie combo, closely followed by sausage & grilled halloumi. I'm proper exotic me Happy.

You could put a skinned and gutted lemming between two slices in a Breville toaster and someone would eat it.

Some diced peppers go very nicely with tuna & mayonnaise. Do not under any circumstances add onion to tuna. It is the devils work.
Report Stow_judge October 24, 2016 6:18 PM BST
wrt to the sandwich toaster - onions go well with cheese, but tomatoes warm to nuclear pop tart hot in a sarnie toaster!
