Whatever the result, America is going to be a car-crash for the next god-knows-how-long. Positions have become so entrenched and bound up with personality that to untangle it all, get some moderation and toleration and willingness to execute policies rather than bluster and protest, is going to be nigh-on impossible.

Trump is now all about shoring up his core support (disaffected white working class males), and presumably hoping that the undecided voters will flock to him. He has given his supporters carte-blanche to ignore the result (if he loses) claiming it will be an establishment fix, so how the hell does America recover from that, given it is likely to be a pretty close run thing?

You will have Clinton in power, but seen as the less of two evils, which is hardly a ringing endorsement. Trumps supporters crying into their Budweisers, convinced beyond reason they are victims of a stitch up and therefore even less tractable and willing to get on with life.

Throw in a logjam in congress and a President, whoever it turns out to be, who has spent the last year projecting their personality rather than describing their policies to get America content with itself and you have the recipe for distrust, logjam and festering discontent.

Meanwhile young black men will keep getting shot, trade deals will go unsigned, climate change negotiations will stall, the body bags will keep coming out of Aleppo and the American literacy rate will continue to plummet.

The worlds policeman? The worlds grumpy old man sat on his couch watching TV more like.

Still. 'Have a Coke and a Smile' eh?

That's a good point Roger - there are a significant number of Senate and House seats up for election on Nov 8th. What happens over the next 4 years may have as much to do with that as with who is President.

do not vote for Hilary she is a leftist and a liberal!
that's all you need to know

Trump is a truly great guy and will instill respect and fear.
That will make a good impression on the Russians, that`s the only sort of thing they understand.

that is a fact, it may be a sad fact, but a fact non the less

Well it's what passes for a 'fact' in Befair-land but it is in fact nothing more than an opinion.

The day America votes in a true 'left-winger' will be the day hell freezes over.

Trump is a over-privileged frat boy, playing out his alpha-male fantasies on the biggest stage he can buy. When and if it comes to him carrying Congress and the people with him, putting in hard yards dealing with details, actually trying to deliver in his ill-defined policies, then we'll see what a 'great guy' he is.

Like I said, it's a poisoned chalice whoever wins

it is difficult of course, Trump knows that himself I am sure. But he has the courage to face these things honestly. Paxman interviewed a young American student in his recent programme and asked her about Trump and his phrase make America great again..

she made a face and said that she didn`t agree, when was it ever great.
made me mad that they have been brainwashed over there also

^^^ possibly more accurate , hoping the undecided stay home as he isn't really
giving them a reason to vote for him.

Perfectly reasonable response to a empty soundbyte of the sort Trump specializes in, I'd say.

At some point you have to put some meaningful flesh on the bones of stuff like 'put a halt on Muslims coming to America until the authorities figure out what to do' (I'm 'para-quoting' but it's something like that) and 'making America great again'.

it wasn't the fact that she screwed her nose up at the phrase making America great again..

but the disrespect she showed when stating when was it ever great, and the disrespect she showed to her country and the people of the country and the men and women of the generations before here that did make that country great, that did achieve great things, and because of whom she could sit there and come out with such mindless and dishonourable nonsense.

she should be thanking America and the previous generations, and hoping that she will be able to be like them, not subject to anyone or anything except their own judgement and good character.
she should take a look around at the many sh1teholes that people live in in misery and fear and repression and relies that building a country is not easy, it is difficult

As someone that likes to screw liberal waffle (quite correctly) to the wall, I would have thought Trumps empty rhetoric would have been just as 'nails down a blackboard'.

Still, I suppose it's all part of what passes for politics and political debate nowadays. Easily digested, unquestioned soundbytes that somehow generate an emotional response at the polling booths

"Make America great again" is one of those ridiculous phrases that people with no arguments tend to fall back on. Yes it can appeal to the nostalgic and the extreme patriots but it should not have any appeal to the educated so good on the student for thinking what a lot of nonsense.

If Putin is the bad guy then surely Trump is the biggest useful idiot of all Confused Trump is the most pro Putin politician in the west. And of course Putin. is very pro Trump , which is why he sends all that stuff about Hilary to Wikileaks.

Did she make a complaint at the time?
