Looking to knock through from the kitchen into the dining room. Job would be to knock the wall down, put in an rsj, fit the new kitchen units (getting rid of all old ones), plaster up and do all new floor and wall tiles.

Been quoted £2,800 for the job, excluding the units and tiles.

Guy doing it is reliable and we've seen his work is good but I'm a bit inexperienced to this so not sure if price is reasonable, cheap or extortionate. Sounds pretty ok to me but I could be way off.

Any ideas folks?

Sounds cheap, is he stealing the materials?

I think so long as you trust the builder and the house value increases by more than £2,800 afterwards it would be worth it.

Yep, we've got our house on the market but thinking of pulling it off in a month or so. Were thinking of replacing our tired kitchen but if we do a good job we can actually add a bit of value.

I think the main thing to check then would be if any building regulations need signing off and that the builder can do it for the legal pack when you sell.

I'd suggest to the builder that you'd love to pull it off, but because of your relative inexperience you'd like his input. What's the worst that could happen?
