Has anyone else been attacked by this scam, all a sudden i'm getting
regular 5 digit Text message cr@p that you automatically delete! but
unbeknown to me every Txt you receive = £4.50.....last months mobile phone
bill i thought was odd, £27 extra, & again this month the same 6 x £4.50's,

There's apparently even a phone scam where if you don't answer the
phone you still get charged a Premium Rate number.....from what i've read
Vodafone phones users are at most risk

New 0845 mobile phone scam charges customers £300 for calls they don't make

I just have a 'pay-as-you go' phone and keep my balance CONSTANTLY under £2.50...I don't get the unsolicited text messages so I never get stung.

I'll see what happens in the next few days, i suffered last months as didn't
realise what was happening, again they've been in & had another 27 quid this month.

Unbelievably now the advice is to Text STOP to something you never even asked for,
where as in the past you told just ignore, don't reply to them....there's a site
that apparently take steps to get your money back, as vodafones advise was to give
me a direct number to ring the company that are scamming you!! Crazy
That don't sound a good idea!

site to check numbers & report numbers below...

texting STOP or STOP ALL charges you another fiver...plus by replying they know that your number is legit and then sell your number to other companies.

Like I said in my first post.....ditch the sim and go PAYG.

You could phone them up and get the number changed.....but that could be another headache for you.

Whats the benefit in letting someone set up a Premium Text message service
where they can send you a Text & the receiver gets charged £4.50.

I can't think of anything except to scam someone?

Even if you genuinely subscribed to something it seems a very strange way to
part with money Confused

That's the advice vodafone give out TBB.

Ie Text STOP to the number, they reckon they can't stop it, but guess they quite
happily take their whack.

That's why i said before, the advice was just ignore don't reply to such Texts.

I managed to cancel 1 of the numbers this morning , that cost 12p

Well if it was me I would threaten to sue Vodafone for harassment for sending me texts they know are wrong and are stressing me to a point of ill health.

I tried that earlier Ibra, i could see a message had arrived & could see
what it was, never opened it , just deleted it!  then as said checked my bill
& it wen't through as a charge of £4.50 at 18.58 tonight.

I've told them twice i'll cancel my direct debit it its not sorted Shab.
One v/fone employee told me they can bar premium charge texts & calls so i said
yeah do it....since then i got another, contacted vodafone tonight and now im being told
they can't bar Premium numbers

By:

Done it this morning Ibra.

He told me what the numbers were & told me to Text STOP to them while
he was still on the phone which i done......& he said he's put a bar for Premium
Rate number call & texts on my phone.....well he never done that because i got another
one tonight at 18.58.

i know it not a fortune but its blatant thieving....some days im getting two in one
day, £9 (greedy sods)

remember this thread....people are being stung, old vulnerable etc

i have the way out.........i've done the detective work myself, these short code scam numbers operate
from the same platform, im sure the phone companies are in on it for a large percent of the money taken.

The platform runner is Veoo, as you'll get next to no help from your phone provider.

I'm with Vodafone Capt.

on settings there's 3 (dealing with Premium Texts) 2 you can bar, or if you speak to vodafone
they will set the bar for you - they tell you this will block them (it don't)

the one setting that obviously will block it says (your not eligible)

The p1ss take of this scam is you never ever signed up to anything,

all of a sudden you just start accumulating £4.50 time and time again by just
receiving a Text

Can u ask them if you can still continue with your obligated monthly payments via direct debit, to pay off for the free phone and internet access etc..... But have all your call and text charges on a separate 'pay-as you go' basis?

So you can do what I advised you to do in my post on 15 Oct 19:53.... without getting a nasty withdrawals from your bank account.

They (the phone companies) will try to help but they'll state its nothing to do with them the Texts are
from a 3rd party.
Vodafone gave me money back, ie we'll give you £20 off this months bill, which seemed odd if the Texts were
not benefiting them.

The phone regulator is PSA http://psauthority.org.uk/

They open investigations in to these Text scams, They gave me the number of Veoo https://www.veoo.com/
who operate the platform that the short code Text scams run off, after speaking to veoo they blocked the companies
operating of their platform from sending the Texts.

re pay as you go, people say if the moneys not there they obviously can't take £4.50 but that won't stop the weekly or daily
Texts, so unless you keep your balance very low for the majority of time chances are they will get through when the credits there.

Its still going on - just check this search below........

Last month it was revealed how some mobile phone customers have been victims of a new 0845 mobile phone scam charging customers up to £300 for calls they didn't make.

There's a new scam apparently where all they need do is ring your phone, even if you don't answer you get billed

My phones all sorted now donny!.....i probably lost around £80, but it was the annoyance
of not being able to stop it,

But its still going on , just check the google link a couple of posts back

That Phone regulator shut one of the numbers down that was sending them, all they did was started operating
from a different number the next day

Thats because business is considered sacrosanct within the western world, the raison d'etre of the human race apparently and thus wont ever go the proper lengths to reign in opportunism.

like this getting worse in the future? maybe

How did i get them to stop....

they said they'd Block the companies using their platform, and touch wood it seems to

when the next months was even more checked my usage & could clearly see what was
going on.
After speaking to Veoo the woman was very helpful & blocked them, the last Text was
