I went into my bank to get £100 off my wife's card.
I then went to the till to exchange the money from the  ATM to get 2x £50 notes for the granddaughter's birthday.
Female Teller "I'm sorry we can't exchange money here"
Me " I just got it out of your machine"
Teller " It's against company policy to exchange money"
Me  "But I just got it out off your indoor machine"
Teller " If you've got your card we can pay it into your account and you can withdraw it from there"
Me " I haven't got my card but I've got Apple Pay you can use that"
Teller "We can't use Apple Pay
Me "Don't be so silly"
Teller "I'm only doing my job"
Me "Jobsworth"

I walked next door into Nat West where they exchanged the money with a smile.
God give me strength.

crazy world we live in.

back in the day they would have taken time to wish granddaughter a happy birthday
whilst changing your money. probably finding the newest notes they could.

i could have written an essay a few years back about the difficulty i had getting
a 500 euro note i wanted to give as a present.

money laundering, ffs, do me a favour.

they should be bending over backwards to improve their image for all the scummy things they've been exposed doing, and those things that are still to come.

If your granddaughter is young, do you really want to expose her to the grief of trying to spend a £50 note?

Next year you can take a picture of a cheque and pay it into your bank via an App.
There will be no need for staff,it's already happening at Canary Warf.
However in my recent experience the turkeys are already voting for Christmas.

I agree with Barclays. Why are you using your wifes card. More to this story than suggested in the OP
