I was totally unaware of this particular part of cold war history until today. In 1961 Irish UN peacekeepers were sent in to Congo while the two superpowers played out their geo-strategic chess match. I watched the film based on the siege and I'd say it was worthy of a chit chat view. As a history buff it's always interesting to read and watch about different conflicts etc. Any other skirmishes that have gone under the radar that would be worthy of more investigation?

Any irish peacekeepers that are still alive are in for a big pay day.At the time the irish Army insisted that ante malaria tablets be taken.The story goes that the tablets given caused long time depression but the irish army refused for them to be withdrawn.Science has lately proved that depression is a side effect of the given tablet.So all congo peacekeepers will have a big payday at the expence of the irish government.
