just back from a froggy hols- we saw this word on all sorts of signs but no-one  knew what it meant

we saw it as part of a pumbing sig so that akes sense- but why would it alo appear on the front of a food shop on a farm- with food on dislay?- smoked meats???

smoked is fumé as in "jambon fumé" smoked ham or "saumon fumé" smoked salmon.

maybe the gaffer doubled up as a plumber.

On the food shop you might have seen saumure or saumurage, food preserved by soaking in brine. Not common but possible.
