I stayed in Lesseps. Had a bit of an old town feel about it. Was away from the centre but Metro was excellent and very cheap - 10 rides for 10 Euros. Fantastic place

I believe Manuel was from Barcelona. Well, Basil and Sybil said he was.

Perhaps he didn't know it well at all because his family moved to Torquay when he was a baby?

Kenny, did you go to Magaluf on one of those 18 - 80 tours?

Did you fight on Franco's side or the other one?

Great city.
Go on Nick's Spanish Civil War tour, great way of spending a couple of hours on a Saturday morning working up a thirst:

The first thing that will strike you when you walk through the city of Barcelona, is the stench coming from the drains.

Then watch out for cyclists who will snatch any bag they see that's not around their victims neck.

Dr Crippen is correct, sneak thievery is rife, don't go swinging cameras or bags around or someone will have them.

The tour of the Nou Camp is great, you can spend a whole day there (buy tickets in advance in town to avoid inevitable queues). Take sandwiches and have them and a beer inside the stadium in the middle of the tour. Even as a football fan I wasn't fussed, but the missus insisted and I'm glad we went.

If you like sandy beaches the city also has one, albeit it is usually busy and probably a bit cooler at this time of year.

There are many galleries, museums and nice restaurants and bars. I'd go back again anytime.

Have to say I never noticed a smell from the sewers!

We stayed at the "H10 Montcada", parallel with "Las Ramblas" and a pleasant walk down to the harbour and beach.

One thing you must do is get a days ticket on the hop on and off open top buses.

Choose from the routes to get you to your list of things to see.

Check out the incredible houses by Antonio Gaudi, and visit a house where he had lived, which now contains "The Gaudi Museum".

Marvel about how one man could achieve all this in his lifetime.

Visit the astonishing "La Sagrada Familia" (Gaudi's finest work) and don't miss spending half a day in "Park Guell" (The Gaudi Gardens).

We hopped off to go to  "FC Barcelona Camp Nou Stadium" and Barça museum but only got a peep as there was a match in the evening.

I bought a superb leather coat, for the equivalent of £125.00, which would have been three times that here!

Would love to go back, as so much to see and do.

I go all the time and stay in Montjuic at the Miramar. Stunning gardens and the best view in Barca.

Have been there many times. Usually stayed in Badalona which is a proper resort with decent beach and is on the direct rail line from the airport and through the city so no transport problems. Great restaurants especially fish. Roast rabbit is a Catalan speciality. Olympic port worth a visit.
For other things refer to Aunty Post above.
