Never mind that!
Play for a minute - win a Gold Medal. Veryan Pappin was reserve goalie for GB Hockey when we won Gold in the 1998 Seoul Olympics. You didn't actually get a medal unless you played in any match in the Olympics and up until the final minute, Pappin hadn't. So with GB beating Germany 3-1, the decision was made to substitute Ian Taylor with Pappin, who did sweet FA for a minute, but still went up and got his Gold. Makes Paul Collingwood's OBE for one test in the 2005 Ashes Series look like a heroic struggle against all odds. |

Although proud of the UK performance I am experiencing
Medal Table fatigue hearing Ad Nauseum a blow by blow report on the latest UK visit to the podium Surely the story of the Games has to be Ukraine. Not once either on TV or in the Press have I seen or heard mention of their incredible Medal haul;for a country beset by so much political strife and limited Athletic resources to be leading the US and Australia and others its simply astonishing. I find this blinkered and arrogant approach by the British Media quite depressing. |

Yes Ukraine stick out like a sore thumb. It wasnt until seeing them so high up the table that I vaguely remembered them doing the same in 2012. And they did. So I did a bit of wiki wanking and it turns out they have some senior minister in Ukraine who is disabled and he made sure lots of money and facilities etc were devoted to disability sport.... Lo and behold they get an absolute hatful of medals. Good luck to them and a shame that no news outlet I have read has mentioned them.
