are they saying it was just an accident..............very sad.............
Report Ramruma September 16, 2016 10:34 AM BST
It may end the uncertainty but the pain ... perhaps not? And it will end the hope, too, that Ben might still be alive.
Report guinness2dear September 16, 2016 10:48 AM BST
It will also give her some closure if and when she gets the body home. Much better than false hope.

reading her comments sounds like closure is the last thing she wants, the point of her whole life seems to have been finding the lad alive.
Report bigH September 16, 2016 2:55 PM BST
that is just so sad.

Shame on the digger driver for not confessing what happened - he must have knowingly buried the child in concrete.

Just doesn't bear thinking about.

Saw her interview today G2D. Not sure it will. Feel so sorry for her.
Unbelievable that the person who has come forward didn't do so earlier.
Both him and the digger driver have put this poor woman through hell for 25 years if what he claims happened turns out to be true.

Seems me and you would price this up differently crags. What makes you say this is 'almost certainly' what happened?

BTW, not trying to induce a wager here. Already said I hope I'm wrong, although that would obviously mean the poor lad is indeed dead.

We don't know that the guy who may have killed the lad told his friend any exact location at all, casemoney.

There's very little chance that he's alive and not been found after all this time, and as we know digging work was going on at the time, I think this is very likely the way young Ben died. Police have also told mother to expect the worst, so they seem fairly sure that what they've been told is true.

A tragedy

A builder killed Ben by accident, but probably knew he would be done so said nothing

Now the builder is dead, the truth is revealed.

If the death was not accidental, nobody should have covered for the culprit.

I would think it unlikely that Ben is alive.
Report akabula September 16, 2016 11:13 PM BST
He went to the police. Not sure how the Mirror got involved.
Report ebulGery September 16, 2016 11:13 PM BST
Friend of the deceased, could be asked why he did come forward before?
Report guinness2dear September 16, 2016 11:14 PM BST
I called this very strange earlier and i see the papers are now 'investigating' the alleged culprit. Doesn't make sense to me doing what he did if what he said happened was true.
Report ebulGery September 16, 2016 11:15 PM BST
Friend of the deceased , may have only suspected the deceased did it of course

The only thing is to find the body.

No, while there is no proof that he is dead, there is hope.

Report ebulGery September 17, 2016 1:43 AM BST
Well that is a point crags....but after 25 years...it would have been most unlikely that he would have turned up?

21 months old crushed by a digger, what was he doing on a building site?

When people accept closure, it can help them come to terms with their loss.

It does vary with people.
Report ebulGery September 17, 2016 1:44 AM BST
Some people can never accept anything anyway

Closure? Like most I used to think it a good thing. Seeing a couple of interviews with mothers of murdered children gives me pause. It rakes up the past, and replaces imagining the possibility of their child's terror, suffering and death, with imagining the certainty of it. Maybe time is a healer and will replace the scab over the wound, as it were. Who knows?
Report bigH September 28, 2016 2:10 PM BST

why are they not reporting that there are claims that he was accidentally killed and then buried by someone who confessed on their deathbed??

Traces of blood on a toy car found amid the search for Ben Needham did not match his DNA, police said.

The missing toddler was 21 months old when he disappeared on the Greek island of Kos in July 1991.

South Yorkshire Police said forensic examinations of the toy, which was recovered from the island, showed no match to Ben or members of his family.

Det Insp Jon Cousins said it was still his "professional belief" Ben died in an accident at a farmhouse.

When the toy car was discovered in 2016, Ben's family, from Sheffield, said they believed it could have been his.

South Yorkshire Police said that "detailed forensic work" had since been carried out over several months on items brought back from Kos

About 60 items discovered during the search were brought back to the UK, some of which were sent for testing at the James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen.

South Yorkshire Police said Ben's family had been told there was no DNA match but that officers would "consider any opportunity to continue the examination of all the items recovered".

Despite the forensic results, Det Ch Insp Cousins said, it was his view that Ben died as a result of a tragic incident "involving heavy machinery" at the farmhouse.

The son of the Greek builder alleged to have made a deathbed confession that he accidentally crushed the missing British toddler Ben Needham to death with his digger 25 years ago and hid the secret, has furiously denied the accusation.......

In June a witness came forward claiming to know precisely what had happened on the afternoon of 24 July at a remote farmhouse in the hills over-looking the Aegean Sea where 21-month-old Ben had been playing.

The witness said that Ben was crushed under the wheels of a large JCB digger that was clearing land around the farmhouse which his grandfather Eddie had been renovating.

The driver – Konstantinos ‘Dinos’ Barkas – had not noticed the little blonde boy go under the wheels of his powerful machine through the clouds of dust that swirled around, he claimed.

And when he saw what he had done he could not bring himself to admit his part the boy’s death so buried him amid the hundreds of tonnes of earth that he was excavating.

Mr Barkas, a larger than life character, popular on Kos, was interviewed by police in the hours after Ben was reported missing and released.

Sounds a bit too convenient and neat that guy in the digger on his death bed. As if they wanted to give her some closure.
