Angela Rayner I believe she is called, but may be mistaken.
Dear God, the woman came across as borderline illiterate. I suppose we must allow for a certain level of camera fright, but surely at least a basic command of the English language is required for such a position. It was embarrassing to watch.
Mind you, Sky's own political correspondent, Beth Rigby, is no better. She has terrible enunciation, doesn't pronounce her Gs at all on gerunds and present participles.

For any leader considering the appointment of education secretary (or its shadow) one would imagine common sense dictates they select somebody pretty damned clever.
Dan Quayle's potato debacle comes to mind.

Underground is a curious one. It is of course moderately pleasing because of the double -und, but the changed pronunciation ruins the aesthetic for me.
Moribund - a hugely pleasing word. Cu mmerbund - Pleasing, but only because it sounds German and is in fact of Indian derivation.

War einst so rund, Der liebe Dachshund. Doch jetzt so schlank gemacht, Dank' der Versicherung Macht.
A beautiful, poetic and inherently fecund language imo

Slough Grammar School for Boys here, Alun. Same as Gary Numan out of Tubeway Army. Incredible that one school should have spawned so much literary talent.

Attending the same educashunul establishment as Gary 'David who?' Numan must have indeed been an awe-inspiring, humbling, yet highly motivational experience for you SBW. Little wonder you became a writer of some merit.
Best thing that ever happened to me as well Treetop.
Bring back the grammar schools ASAP.

Webb, G was in the fifth form while I was in the first form, so we were neither "friends" nor electric. Mind you, he didn't have any cars at that time either.
My mother went to the same school as Micklewhite, MJ, which explains why she left at 14 with no qualifications. She was ever so proud when she wrote out the address label on my new satchel for the first day: "Slough Grammer School". I was given 50 lines when the Latin master spotted it on day one. Then another 50 when I pointed out that it was my mother who had written it. "Evasion of responsibility is despicable."
Since my dad was a Ukrainian who could barely speak English, never mind spell it, I can only guess how grim, unfulfilling and frustrating life might have been without the opportunities a grammar school education offered. It offered access to a world that might as well have been another dimension if you grew up on an estate in Slough in the 1960s and 1970s.

A friend of mine owns a few bars in the USA. He was a Numan fan of sorts for about 10 minutes in the 80s, and tells me that whenever "Cars" comes on the jukebox it ALWAYS receives a positive response from the blue-chip clientele that frequent one of his taverns.
There could surely be no finer validation of a Slough Grammar School education.

Jacob Rees-Mogg has made the record books with the use of floccinaucinihilipilification in the House of Commons - now the longest word in Hansard.
The Conservative MP told Andrew Neil the 29-letter word meant the "act or habit of estimating as worthless" and that it "came to mind as it does from time to time".
