I know mine is slaughtered at my butchers by non halal methods, he also writes on a board which farm has provided the beef, pork and lamb and it is always within a 15 mile radius of the shop.

halal shmamal.
the only thing that matters is whether it was prestunned or not. and even before that the general welfare of the animal while it's still alive is probably the most important ethically decision. 90% of halal meat IS prestunned. I think the figure is closer to 0% for kosher. But we don't seem to worry about that for some reason. Having worked on farms during school holidays many moons ago, I'd be more concerned about the life an animal leads while it's alive than the specifics of the moment of death. Having seen poultry killed conventionally, and halal without the prestunning, there's not much difference in the distress the animal displays. I'd take a humane happy open existence with a non prestunned death over a **** battery farm with a prestunned death every day of the week. |
