Just found a clip that has a couple of minutes more to it and better sound quality:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypoGFfzLW9A Still laughing! |

Heard it live Tommy. Had me in hysterics!

Me too, GoOnThen!
You could really visualise every moment of it as Saunders was telling the tale. Just brilliant stuff! |

"He's not your mate, he'd empty your fridge"

Beyond all expectations!
![]() ![]() Dean Saunders must be quite a character himself, not the average footballer-type, to have recalled everything in such detail. Clough was unique, that's for sure. |
|
By:
He sure was, Vel.
- and that's what makes the world a better place. We don't want 'corporate clones' stuffing the place up with their box ticking et al - we need people with personality and a joie de vivre. |

This would make a great half hour drama, Tommy, theatre or telly...

Aye, Vel!
|
|
By:
that was very funny, almost unbelivable and eccentric. when the wife said suussh, he was there with his arm around the mother in law

By:
Indeed, LFC1971, but the great thing is that those who remember Cloughie's eccentricities know that it would have been exactly as Saunders remembered it - and in no way exaggerated at all - such was the great man known by the name of Brian Clough!
|
|
By:
You can see why players wanted to play for him, life would never be dull.
|
|
By:
Absolutely, TheBaron.
Far better to never know what's coming next with Cloughie than playing for a clipboard clown like Louis Van G(h)aaaaaal. If I'd have been playing at Man U while he was there I'd have hissed at him every time the arrogant, know nothing, write-everything-down-and-never-see-anything, boring bugger spoke. |

Most Forest fans reckon Saunders has made most of this up or at least exaggerated massively. If so he deserves a kick.
|
|
By:
that`s because most Forest fans are not capable of logical thought. Its true and funny and interesting and sad and nice.
i believe every word of it. |
|
By:
That was very good.
![]() Cloughie was/is a legend. |
|
By:
oh it's true alright Alan Hill told the same story at a sportsman's dinner. Cloughie hated Kev Mason as he was Stuart Pearce's agent and they had a big bust up over a contract for Psycho. If Deano had gone to Forest I reckon there would have been riots in Derby, it was bad enough that Maxwell was flogging off their best players that would have really rubbed their noses in it. When Cloughie signed Roy Macfarland from Tranmere Liverpool were after him, Brian and Peter Taylor drove up to Liverpool late at night and they got Roy Macs mum to get him out of bed, they badgered him all night and got him to sign over breakfast the next morning.

By:
Legend, thanks for link op.
Cloughie, a man you would want to spend an hour with for certain. |
|
By:
Brilliant
Thanks |
|
By:
I was fortunate to spend quite a few hours with him from when I was 5 years old.

Dean Saunders has been on the Jim White show since 10am this morning (Jim's taken over from Colin Murray in the 10am-1pm slot) - and very entertaining he's been too.
Presently talking to Souness on the telephone. |

Quite rightly, The Guardian's highly-paid "Tommy Toes Correspondent" is picking this story up and running with it.
