Aldi do a wild boar salami - just tried it and frankly the basic pork versions are better.

In the old days the exotic version was an improvement:
e.g.
cherry tomatoes beat salad tomatoes
mandarins are nicer than oranges
kettle crisps are tastier than crisps

In the panel's view are there any exotic foods lately which are worth the extra?

English Asparagus is better than French which in turn is about 400 times better than that Peruvian imported stuff.

Sourdough bread vs, er, bread
Free-range pork, if it means the pigs have access to acorns in the autumn, and free-range chicken, vs cage or stall-raised meat
Duck liver vs any other liver
Hungarian sweet paprika vs that stuff they sell on the herbs and spices counters in supermarkets or put into tinned soup
