French police indicate the knifeman has a history of psychiatric problems, though his identity has not been released.

By:
I reckon it's 'Alan Alda' they keep shouting, followed by a sort of violent protest about why we don't see that fine actor on the telly anymore.

Train derailment at Paddington 'may have been caused by driver fasting for Ramadan' . http://www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/train-derailment-at-paddington-may-have-been-result-of-driver-fasting-for-ramadan-a3324216.html The answer was Allah Akbar btw - well done to all those that took part. |

It is clearly a Mossad plot to give the Religion of Peace a bad name, because as we all know from reading the Grauniad and watching BBC, the Muslims never do anything wrong!

The mental illness thing may mean that terrorist groups are intentionally grooming the mentally ill for use in these attacks, rather than waste trained fighters.

I wouldn't worry about it. According to the BBC it was a lone wolf with psychiatric problems.

No -- that is precisely what we need to worry about. MI5 can stop the serious plots but any lunatic who is having a bad day can grab a knife out of his kitchen drawer and stab some passing stranger, or drive their car into a bus queue. |

where was god?
By:
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able, and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? |
By:
Quite.
My problem with religion is that each one expects the secular to defend each faith, so that those that follow each believe they can be in a better position to ascend to heaven, at the cost of the secular. |
By:
Religion doesnt ask us to believe in god, it actually asks us to believe in mankind, since all the stories were written by others and witnessed by people non of us knew.
If you were given a message that you know was from another human, and you had to take that human's word to be truth......you would end up with nothing. Thats why there are virus checkers on computers and spam filters on email accounts. So the logic doesnt sound to me to be one that derives from something greater than human. |
By:
So perhaps the secular should look after its own and let religion deal with religion until theres one left for the secular to deal with?
By:
My question re where was God is: who did he put in charge?
The world is our responsibility. Quite why he would give us such power is something I struggle with. However, we can either use knives to chop our tomatoes and cheeses or we can slit peoples' throats. I find that choice quite easy but sadly too many don't. Re this particular case, I see Plod/media has once again shown remarkable diagnostic skills at evaluating motive and mental health status of the attacker just HOURS after the event. When will this cover up mentality end..? |
By:
Injera you dont know god put anyone 'in charge'
Only differing people telling you what they think they know. |
By:
Why did he shout "Guess"?
By:
Because he was playing Guess Who?
By:
He gave 'dominion to us.' It's in the good book...
Someone once said, 'love one another'. We can do this or slit their throats. It's up to us... We can start the hospice movement (Saunders) or not.. We can liberate workers/children/animals (Wilberforce/Shaftesbury) or not. We can open schools and hospitals (too many to mention) or not. We can run thousands of UK based charities serving the whole world, in the name of...ehem... or not. You despise religion Dusty. So do I. But, like me, I doubt you hate the undercover Christians who risk their lives daily bringing sustenance to those in Syria and North Korea. You and I know not their names, but I can assure you, they are there ![]() I know, cos I did that kinda stuff... |
By:
All of that is attempting to validity what exactly?
God by dissociation? Correct, we can do or not do. How does that prove god? The Cynics said that we reward ourselves for doing 'good'. 'Virtue is and of itself the reward' |
By:
validate rather
By:
Injera what I find really interesting is this.
The acts of virtue done by the pious who have a connection to christ do so either because of Catholicism - Fear (of damnation) Protestantism - Love (as interpreted by Luther as the act of wanting to do thinks out of love alone) But both of these either directly (saving from hell) or indirectly (rewarding with heaven) have a vested interest. What of those secular who believe in neither? They dont expect reward at all. Who truly is the righteous? |
By:
Hmm, a different question all together. I can't answer that specifically.
What I would say though is that countless people who have been inspired by Christ have done THE most extraordinary things. From what I've read, they don't seem to be motivated by fear or rewards at all. My personal favourite is Shaftesbury but Saunders (Hospices) has a special place in my heart for personal reasons.. |
