As Enrico Fermi said, "if the galaxy is teeming with life, where is everybody?"

Considering how old the universe is,its very strange why our neighbours never dropped in to say hello(well we have no proof of visitors).unless we are more advanced in life than all the rest.
of course there is one visitor that did arrive about 2000 years ago and said his father had made the universe.but we crucified him.
but he came to life again and went back to his home in a place called heaven.think he said he will come back to see us all some day.

"Stop messing about" as Kenneth Williams might have said.

If there are intelligent creatures out there we're more likely to be visited by robots than flesh and blood.

who to say that maybe a few million years ago there was a generation on this earth of ours and they fecked everything up so badly that led us to believe  that we are the only generation.

There's a session on 5Live between midnight and 1am where someone answers callers' questions about space etc.

He said that there are ancient cave paintings which depict a binary star system which is only visible with a telescope.Shocked

That comment was made in answer to a question concerning whether there might have been an advanced civilisation on earth which was destroyed.

Well - they've sent probes to mars and they have sent man to the moon.
Bacteria survives in extreme conditions.
If you look at surfaces of metals in an electron microscope. you see
it's teaming with bacteria.
So man has seeded all his instrumentation that he's sent up.

So YES there is life out there.

make a bet with the bookie then take him to court as soon as the bet is placed.
get scientists to testify about bacterial contamination.

although correct zorro , Bacteria becomes slightly irrelevant if we're talking about Intelligent Life Forms (ET's) in my opinion , which I believe exist , and do visit , even terra formed earth in our distant past

Consider this ..
If you were to go back & visit people from just 150 years ago would you really want to tell them about the Laptops , Smartphones & Wifi we use today, would you tell them how awesome Supercars are , the high speed rail , the fancy Washing machines & Dishwashers we use everyday ....

No

They'd get scared & think you were bloody Mad Cool

It wouldn`t have surprised H G Wells, or just about anyone else.

its science and science tells us that life is impossible everywhere.

it can be wrong because life exists on earth. however it is impossible for life to exist on earth and just because it does does not mean that it is possible.

If these intelligent beings are millions of years advanced to us how would science even know what to look for to prove anything .. a few test tubes and a Bunsen burner just doesn't cut it any more !

and would they tell you if they found it existed ..

No so you just believe what you're told like a good little peoples Plain

Given that earth in the universe is akin to a full stop in the Atlantic ocean I'd say it would be very probable for life elsewhere.

the size of the universe is meaningless in relation to the question of the possibility of life.

I think you have to ask yourself why, on our planet which is so hospitable to life, has the its creation happened only once im three billion years?
By:
lfc1971
When: 17 Aug 16 20:33
look at it this way. we don`t know how life came to exist on earth. there is no mathmatical formula or scientific principle that explains it.

now lets say there was. only if in that formula there existed part of the equation that said the universe would have to be so many million light years across for there to be life.

only then would the size of the universe become relevent.

however as there is no formula it is meaningless to think that the size of the universe plays a part

no, if we don`t know what created life then it does not mean anything to say that the larger space is the greater the chance of life. that`s illogical

There may have been false starts but as far as I know we don't have any evidence for other life systems. What is certain is that when life got a foothold it changed the environment of the primitive earth and eventually polluted the atmosphere and water with highly reactive oxygen.

only when we have disproved the scientific fact that life is impossible on earth would it matter if there are more earths in the universe.

as according to science now life on earth is impossible then it is not relevent how many other earths there are

i would say the very fact that something impossible has happened once...ie life on earth, makes it less likely that there is life elsewhere.

what are the odds of something impossible happening twice?
By:
Mc Moonbeam
When: 17 Aug 16 20:57
If it's already happened once then it could happen another million times ... Go Figure !
