Mark Kram...Sports Illustrated journo and author of "Ghosts of Manila," the best sports book I've ever read.
John McPhee..."Pieces of the Frame" is a terrific anthology, about horse racing, tennis and other sports. He is an important teacher and there's a list of his ex-pupils on Wiki.
Edd Straw who writes for Autosport, he's an ex-clubman racer so does know about the grassroots scene.
