It is still news for three main reasons: the racist attack; the certainly incompetent and probably corrupt police investigation; but most of all because Lawrence's uncle was a security guard at the Daily Mail, who splashed the story, named the suspects, and kept it running. It is further significant because it led to the finding of "institutional racism" against the police, and the end of the double jeopardy rule.

You are so right about gavin hopley - I am always amazed how the imbalance there is in justice here. But the reporting is even more scandalous.
Anyone noticed how judges/courts seem to bend over backwards for so calle 'minority' and 'community' interests.  Check out some of the sentences in some cases too.
