Can't take away his early work though. The Sex Pistols were as important to the 70s music scene as the Beatles were to the 60s

Punk had so much energy and opened the doors for a lot of bands who would not have normally been given a chance to shine.

The Establishment wet their knickers over Punk.

Lydon and the Pistols were not that important....they just became the focus for the Tabloids to destroy.

They were marketed well by mclaren, not a patch on the clash although i didnt realise at the time
Report dukeofpuke July 31, 2016 2:15 AM BST
they sort of took on the way hawkwind did their stuff but on a bigger commercial scale

so the hippies were the 1st punks

and you could say lemmy was the grandfather of the punk ideology
Report The Leopard July 31, 2016 9:08 AM BST
Lemmy  always came across as a bit of an idiot, too many drugs and booze, how many young girls lives did he ruin?

Punk / Newwave was more than just Nihilism, it was a political, social revolution.

Most of the early punk bands were just the boybands of their time put together by managers like McClaren who saw an opportunity to sell his clothes. The rest of the movement was the pub rock bands who couldn't believe their luck and went along for the ride and to make up the numbers.

Report terry mccann July 31, 2016 1:49 PM BST
some of it is right in the fact a high percentage of punk bands were talentless and who you've never heard of,
but I loved punk as a kid mostly because the hit music 76 was dire
Report TheBaron July 31, 2016 1:58 PM BST
A lot of bollocks talked about Punk.  At the time most people I knew just thought it was a bit of a laugh, we went to see the Sex Pistols just because of the pogoing and gobbing and even then they didn't turn up.

A few good bands but most were ****.  The bands that followed it were better.
