Bought a return off peak ticket for tomorrow departing after midday, would I be able to use this ticket for an earlier train that departs two hours earlier if I wanted to? The cost of the earlier departure is also the same as the one I booked.

Depends on the train probably? Is it your local guys or GNER/Virgin?
Does the ticket say the train or is a general ticket and a separate seat booking?
