Anyone really interested in it anymore ?

Whole thing been ruined by performance enhancing drugs scandals over the years in my opinion. And now you have Kenyans running for Turkey, Lithuanians representing Ireland, Russians representing Australia, etc.  It's finished.

Go back 4 years. It was going to be a disaster. Started ok, everyone bowled over by the quirky opening ceremony. After 4 days little GB medal haul, then it was a non stop host nation party.

A few begrugders harping for their Premiership football etc. Every 4 years for this, just about right.

Only trouble is you need a first world developed nation to run it. Sydney 2000/London 2012 good examples.

Let's see how many seats are filled here first and foremost. I'd say 4/5days before we hear about a medallist's drug violation.

It's not mandatory to watch it. Football season starts at the same time and there's a couple of test matches as well.

BBC will be all over the Olympics, but there's plenty of other channels you can watch. The main athletics events are on in the middle of the night, so that need not worry anyone either.

What Jumper said.

One week out and it was always going to be 'terrible....worst ever...totally unprepared.......riven by controversy', in fact it'll probably get a whole lot worse right up until next Friday.

Then the sport will start.....

Tbh I'd have to look up the dates of the Olympics but I think it's next month some time.

But I expect it will be better than most of us expect -- because Brazil will have learned from London which demonstrated to the world that you can host the Olympics without breaking the bank; that the opening and closing ceremonies can be quirky celebrations of the host nation, rather than mega-expensive, communist-style, regimented propaganda.

Brazil knows how to party; knows how to host major sports tournaments (the World Cup two years ago); and London showed it can be done on a budget.

But golf -- wtf?
