It was really bad so I clicked on the net for a cure.
it said to take a glass of water with a tea spoon of vinegar in it.
so I followed instructions and guess what?
The heartburn was gone within 20 seconds.
remember this thread you may need to do this one day.
But seriously I could not believe how good and how quick the tip worked.Grin

If it recurs you would be better off going to see your GP and getting some proper medication. Heartburn can lead to serious complications if left untreated.

I think apple cider is best but my heartburn was so bad I did not care,so I seen a bottle of chip shop vinegar in the press and used it.but it worked straight away.

I've been having heartburn for about 6 weeks or so.I was constantly being sick, sometimes as many as 5 or more times a day but i think I found out why 2 days ago.I've been eating very few vegetables and so by eating fruit and other acidic foods i am building up lots of acid and its not being neutralised or counterbalanced by veg...So what I need to do is eat far more veg.Actually as I'm writing this I'm having heartburn now.I'm sure about needing to eat more vegetables though.I can't take vinegar,by the way, allergic to Acetic acid.

The stomach produces the acid, not the food.

apple cider vinegar

as you get older you produce less stomach acid.
they try to sell you anti acids but this only helps briefly.
your stomach needs more acid not less.
Avoid all anti acids.
i actually think the anti acids cause your stomach to stop producing it's
own natural way of dealing with the problem.
I get stomach cramps and apple cider vinegar helps me.
it can even supposedly help flush out stones in gall bladder and liver over time.
along with chinese bitters.

a spoonful a day in a morning glass of water.

Culvin - you definitely need to see a doctor. Could be a number of things. You might need to have the camera down to explore possibilities. Not being alarmist but I've been there and the problem is now sorted.

Culvin - wise man. Always better to get it seen to. I've read that smoking apart from it's obvious dangers , can aggravate acid reflux because it relaxes the eosophagus which usually keeps food and acid down. good luck anyway.

I'm trying sodium bicarb now. Say it's anti cancer too.

I can't make any sense of what's wrong with me.

Ate junk for over forty years - switch to a healthier diet and
now my stomach hates me. one internet article says to go back
to my old diet.  Says your body is used to it. You can't change
to another just like that.
used to eat anything, now i'm scared of a glass of irn bru.

You're overdoing the deep-fried Mars bars Zorro, eat no more than two a day and you'll be alright.

Far be it for me to add caution to the relief that these drugs can give, but they can have side effects, particularly if taken long term.

Googling will list many of these, particularly lack of calcium intake can lead to weakness of bones and fractures, particularly hips.

If you can get off them, try.

My doctor told me not to drink Apple Cider Vinegar?
said if I had an ulcer would be dangerous.
What doctor should you listen to? conflicting info?

It's worth having some Gaviscon tablets to hand, but I always find that water on it's own is good.

Milk and digestive biscuits are also good, as is cereal with milk.

Milky drinks and porridge are also good.

Heartburn is just a symptom of indigestion.

Usually the problem is caused by eating combinations of stuff you can't digest. You eat your meat and two veg then give yourself indigestion by adding a sweet, which will not digest with the poor combination of food already in your stomach.
Too much alcohol can give you indigestion.
To correct indigestion, it's simply a matter of cutting out the stuff that's causing the problem. Or eating your food in compatible combinations
Cows milk is one of the worst foods in this respect. It doesn't digest well with most foods.
People who take care not to eat bad combinations of food (food combiners) do not suffer with indigestion.

The other cause of indigestion could be helicobacter pylori. This is the bacteria that can live in your gut and give you the indigestion that causes stomach ulcers.

If the indigestion is recurring see your doctor.
