1. Pacman. I believe I was one of the first players to complete the game, 256 screens and a score of 3,333,360.
2. Q Bert. I was also extremely good at this game, but cannot remember my top score. 3. Space Invaders. The one that started it all, perhaps? I remember playing it in the late 1970s. 4. Elevator Action. Can't really recall much about the game other than I loved it. 5. Asteroids. Simple, yet brilliant. |

Was reading an article about the worst game Atari made a while back. It pretty much broke them I think?
ET the video game. There's a video of it on youtube. They made piles of them and had to put them in landfill as it was so sh*t it was unbelievable. |

I rarely played arcade games, and Pac Man and Space Invaders are the only two that spring to mind.
My first ever console was The Atari 2600 and Yars Revenge and Hero springs to mind. |
|
By:
Call of Duty 0.1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8jd9VvJodI It's playing games like that turn schoolkidz into gun toting murderers. |

Never played arcade games, but I did get hooked on one in the pub for a few months in the 70s.Never played since
Space Invaders. Thought it was terrific. |

I will bore you with my early years of consoles.
So i got an Atari, cant remember the year but i remember going nutz on a xmas day at 5am. So we played ping pong, then played space invaders. Followed by pitfall. During the summer hols i would take my console down the road where we would play atari decathlon, the game was one player so each player took turns and we wrote down the scores. I was superb at the 100m, which transferred to me bing very quick in the bathroom. Anyways, the 1500m was a killer, it hit me like i was Daley Thompson, i did not have the stamina for it, i mainly won due to my sprinting actions. I enjoyed the 1500m at school, hanging out the back chatting with mates, the atari version was torture. |

Forgot about ping pong. Loved that. Goes back to about 72-73.

Did anybody have a VECTREX? It was not an arcade game it was a console {milton bradley,i believe} i would literally play that for hours and hours.I once played the in-built game Minestorm for so long that when i finally finished playing at about 3am after playing for about 20 hours,i took my dog outside and i then fainted in the street.I think i regained consciousness about 5 mins later to see that my dog was sitting by me wagging its tail.

Galaga - a magnificent game. I managed to go through the entire game & end up back on the 1st stage again, only it was going much, much quicker.
Moon Cresta - memories of a 6th form ski trip and playing the table-top version of this. Fun docking procedure at one stage iirc trying to improve your shooting rocket's capability. Frogger - trying to leap across the moving stacks. Space Invaders/Pac Man - obviously hard to bet these originals. Raiden - a little further into the evolution of arcade games, this is a timeless classic. There are a couple of hidden gems. In one early stage you have to keep firing at this leafy glen and an angel pops out of it which you pass over for a bonus. 2 player is the best - you overlap to create the strongest firepower. |

Defender, Donkey Kong, Galaxian/Galaga and Scramble were my faves

Track & Field

Some crackers there. Great story culvin!
Remember doing similar with ghost n ghouls (sure it was ghost n goblins at first) on the mega drive xmas day 93/94 Me and my cousin both got a mega drive. We sat up playing Ghost n Ghouls right through to boxing day morning. Remember him completing the final round enemy waiting to see the ending only for the game to start back on level 1 on a harder setting must of went through about 4 selection boxes between us that night, few hours kip then back up to play again all day boxing day |

never bothered with arcades I've always prefered strategy games. Used to play Bruce Lee on the speccy that's about it.

What was that game where you had a big roller ball in the middle of the console and had to lay down loads of mines to stop aliens attacking your home base?
Played it til my fingers bled in the early 80's and can't remember its name now. |
|
By:
Track An Field, Shinobi and of Course Space Invaders
|
|
By:
Wasn't that Asteroids, Roger? I remember that big roller ball. Phoenix a great shout by Gin - very similar to Moon Cresta iirc.

I think the game you are talking about was Missile Command? |
|
By:
Probably my favourite would be Phoenix, you may remember – the birds, the eggs and the BIG egg mothership thing.
|
|
By:
Phoenix
scramble galaxians Star Wars (the one where the x fighters shot snow flake looking bullets?) Asteroids. |
|
By:
Pheonix & Galaxins were great. I remember playing Elite on the bbc micro, great game travelling across galaxies selling dodgy stuff.
|
|
By:
I spent half my wages while working as a waiter at Butlins Clacton 1979 on Space Invaders.
|
|
By:
Yeah Phoenix - where you had to shoot up that egg from the Pterodactyl-like thing that came out of the mothership?
|
|
By:
Bally Midway should bring out a sequel to Asteroids for all its former players now in their fifties. They could call it haemorrhoids.
|
|
By:
Galaxians was brilliant. But the games were 20p I think and they didn't last very long.
Always preferred the joysticks for Space Invaders rather than the buttons. Did you have to count the number of spaceships to get a higher score or something. Breakout was great. |
