Once found a jack-knifed lorry. It happened just as I was approaching to overtake it. Managed to steer hard left and just passed its rear end on the hard shoulder by a hair's breadth.
Looked in the mirror and saw no other car, the lorry was blocking all three lanes. Was more than 30 years ago but still shocks when I think about it.

Mine was seeing a Hot Hatch ( I believe they call them ) go flying by in the 3rd lane only to lose it and end up in the inside lane facing me with it's headlights in my eyes. I had to pull on to the Hard Shoulder to avoid it. I had a minor Heart Attack ( **** myself ) they spun around and carried on as if nothing had happened.

Following HGV on M62 westbound near Pontefract, suddenly a large cloud of smoke appeared and as I went through it in lane 3 the twin wheels from the trailer were bouncing down the road. They hit the centre armco, bounced back across three lanes and set the grass on the hard shoulder on fire. HGV by this time had pulled over, but sure was frightening and thank christ they didn't clear the barrier.

Our roads are much more dangerous because of all the foreign drivers with mickey-mouse insurance (or none) as they know if they have an accident they will just skip back to Eastern-Europe (incl. Turkey).

14 sealed chickens. All intact.
actually fell off a back of a lorry.
Jumped out and grabbed them off the road
with my brother.
the Truck was long gone and they would
be splatter if left.
This was about 1992?
We had a few beeps from traffic, but
were not killed.
nice cooked chickens in plastic seals.
Gave seven away - Ate one by myself that
night. Added butter and stock cubes to heat.
delicious.
Although there was worry at the time they
were being taken to some facility to be
destroyed because they were tainted?
but I'm still here, so that was just a
baseless fear.

You did the right thing. If they made it across the road it would have been difficult to explain.

Lived in Cyprus for a while and leaving Paphos one day on one of the island's few dual carriageways, approaching a bend and a little old lady in a Nissan Micra was tootling quite happily towards me.

She seemed totally oblivious whilst I found it to be one of the best laxatives ever.

My dad came up the road one day and there was a drunk guy lying on
the road markings in the middle of the road. Said he didn't see him
till he was almost there. Luckily he missed him. I think the drunk
found it funny, he got up and moved on.

More Things to Find On A Motorway in Summer.

Real M-Way Mayhem this : an unfunny urinating "disc-jockey".

A bit of a surprise. Usually found extracting the urine rather than providing it.
