did you contact trading standards for false advertising?

Most of us do, indirectly. Supermarkets tend to stock products which have been advertised.

I cant ever recall buying anything from a supermarket I had seen in an advert.

Everything thats advertised is by definition bad value.

Price = cost + profit
where cost includes the amount spent on attempting to coax the public into buying something they didnt need.

They keep telling us that advertising pays for content, but thats after profit has been taken.
Its actually the tail wagging the dog, advertising keeps prices high since the content providers charge the advertisers 'space' to be used to deceive.

And if content only gets made by blanket selling s hit most dont want then thats the wider public's inconvenience paying for the minority's enjoyment of the content.
So theres got to be an argument that the content does deserve to be made anyway.

Therefore everyone should use advertising blockers with impunity and ignore everything the marketing departments tell you.

You might not have seen the advert, but the point is that a supermarket buyer is going to stock the product which has a multi-million advertising campaign behind it.

These are the huge-selling brands like McVities, Coca Cola, Walkers Crisps, Persil, Radox, Dettol...

Nobody is denying that there are 'needs' that are supplied.
People need food but food itself doesnt need advertising.

Is it ironic that the food variants of those examples are actually the ones decried for adding stuff to their products that cynically 'hook' the consumer while at the same time deteriorating health?

A rule of thumb that tends to work is that if it has a named 'brand' and comes in a box then its not good for you and likely to be targeted at you for nefarious reasons.

a magnum ice lolly - that lady over promised the satisfaction.

a yorkie bar - the rugged trucker advert where he picks up ladies.

am sure more chocolate was foisted upon me by the advertisers.

On a different track but in similar vein, has anyone bought anything off a shopping channel?

I bought a games console once with 50+ old Spectrum games on it for £30, the shopping channel done it's work an it was a must have purchase that "saved" me £25 had I bought it later.

Yes ripped off and fell for the speil.

Not knowingly bought anything as a result of advertising, generally leave that to the wife.

Some brands of car are heavily advertised usually style over substance and I wonder how strongly that has a subliminal effect when the time comes to change. Mine is a Ford by the way Grin.

Ask yourself this these questions.

when you stepped up to a bar for the first
time what did you order? and why?

what do you drink now? and why?

there are almost limitless brands of drinks
out there - why have you settled on what you drink now?
did you see bacardi breezer ads or beck's beer?

i would prefer to drink chocolate liqueur but
i say guiness if i'm in a bar. As they will have that.
and i don't look like a p ussy.

Zorro, Guinness isn't a swear word anymore.

Next time you get a Guinness, ask your bar man to pour it to the neck in one go. Serious!

He will pour a perfect pint I promise (unless the taps are set high)

The Guinness malarky of waiting 2 minutes is a ploy, how this has never been exposed before is beyond me lol.

I get pissed off at the number of times I have to not download some cheap pointless app for them to get the message that their clash of clans or mobile strike has zero appeal.

I don't care how much money they pay Arnie to dress up to try and convince me I should play some shallow war app on my phone....it won't be happening.

It's said that choice is some parable of civilised society, but just look what happens when there are no limits. People get encouraged to make utter tripe and sell it like it's required.

Whenever I make any sort of purchase I have so many options that it's difficult working out which is the best option, which won't be obsolete in six months or which of the masquerades actually have any truth to them.

I'm ashamed to say I bought a Shamwow based on an infomercial advert that used to run overnight continuously on every channel about 8 years ago:

FYI it is crap and no better than any regular shammy (lesson learnt!)

Ive got a double cupboard in the kitchen thats chock full of needless crap, but I can't recall any of it being purchased as a result of seeing an advert.
Its like an elephants graveyard of devices from breville to jack lelane and nutri bullet to george foreman grill.....barely any of it gets used and all was bought as a result of seeing other people having them and assuming them to be good.

I think we should have trade magazines that are more like indexes for enterprise wanting to advise on what crap is on the market in any given sector....if you want a new car then go look to see what the options are.
The rest of advertising away from the actual premises where things are purchased should get banned. Opportunist selling of garbage just to keep a needless industry afloat or subsequent financing of other things should end, if they fail then humanity will endure and survive without all the landfill junk and who knows the creative types might be forced to actually create better things for people rather than looking at a product and thinking of a way they can dupe the public into buying it.
