I was dismayed today to see David Cameron roll up at Buckingham Palace in a decidedly average Jaguar, followed by a BMW 4x4 and some sort of Ford people-carrier. It all appeared rather shabby in my view, most unbecoming for a person of his standing and not an image one should present to the wider world.
Whatever happened to the fleet of Daimler limousines I remember in my youth, slowly gliding to and from Downing Street or across Westminster Bridge with the utmost gravitas on such occasions. Rolls Royce are missing a trick, they should supply the British government with half a dozen of their finest models every year for official business. My gardener drives a BMW for heaven's sake!
Does anyone remember the opening credits of House of Cards with Ian Richardson as Chief Whip, Francis Urquhart?
That's how our senior politicians should travel, a matching fleet of black Daimler DS420s, not a mishmash of common vehicles any average Joe might drive.

Rolls Royces or Bentleys would surely be more appropriate, as much as I like the BMW brand.
Deep down I think the politicos are terrified of looking 'elitist' and having the public pay for luxury cars.

And I for one will not rest until this fabulous Minister is given her own personal Rolls Royce to get around in..http://www.dailystar.co.uk/showbiz-tv/hot-tv/360168/Sexiest-female-MP-Penny-Mordaunt-strips-to-swimsuit-for-Splash-training-with-Tom-Dale

Mercs were the standard vehicle among corner-shop owners and takeaway-restaurant magnates in Slough, when I lived there. And use of Beamers (always on lease) now seems to have become the badge of the multiply mortgaged landlord community.
On the other hand, surely Rollers should be the marque of royalty, not some here-today-gone-tomorrow politician? Personally I'd like to see the PM supplied with an underpowered Land Rover Defender 110, complete with leaky windscreen and jammed transfer lever.
