Independence.
Considering Britain once ruled half the world not unreasonable to assume they would be able to rule themselves again. |

I can't wait to get my hands on those straight bananas.

More economic freedom, for goods, service and people.
Curiously I learned a fair bit about bananas in the EURef campaign. That the EU has regulations on bananas is true, although to within four words the regulations were identical to the specification for Class 1 bananas that the industry already had. In practical terms then, the free market of commerce had got the regulation of bananas thing covered. It didn't need any regulation at all from a supranational body. What business is it of the EU to tell Morrisons what bananas their customers need, when Morrisons and their competitors have already got a spec in place for their supply, a spec the industry had written? Now it may come to pass that industry standards change - bananas come and go, people may want something smaller, or sweeter, or with fewer calories, or a slow-release one which fits in the jaw when you're cycling competitively, the growers may want something resistant to the latest disease, the scientists may come up with something that ripens differently, we just don't know yet because it hasn't happened. The point is that change will happen one day if we wait long enough, but it can't happen in the EU as fast as elsewhere with less regulation because some lobbyist for the industry has to go out and get the law frigging changed before they can sell their new thing. Just one example of many how the EU stifles experimentation and innovation, and why small business generally doesn't like it. |

I was voting against supranational union which will eventually lead to disaster. One only has to look at Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy to see where things are heading.
Cream Crackers thinks the world will end. Well it might but not because of Brexit. |
|
By:
Other countries will follow suit.
There is a general unrest at where the EU is heading. |
|
By:
Foinavon - The world won't end. We won't even become poorer. Except if we measure ourselves against our counterparts in France/Germany and beyond. We in the UK are destined by Brexit to fall further and further behind our European cousins; not because they work harder or are more intelligent than ourselves but because they are part of the EU free-trade, and we won't be. Same reason why we were begging to join the EEC for a dozen years.
History repeats itself as farce. |
|
By:
The EU is on the edge of a cliff.
What do you think will happen first UB. Other countries coming out, or the Euro being dropped? |
|
By:
I was an adult when we went into the EEC and know that the world was different then.
We joined a trading union, a group of 6 rich countries. Since then they've taken in the poorest half of Europe and foolishly introduced a single currency across mismatched economies. The idea was that free movement would mean that the unemployed could go to where the jobs are but that doesn't work does it? Instead of the huge numbers of unemployed youth in Spain moving to the jobs in Germany they have been importing cheap labour from Turkey and other countries outside of Europe. In the meantime Germany booms and Southern Europe can't compete and stagnates. The project has failed and will result in much misery before it finally unwinds. In the 1970s the BRICS countries were poor. Today they are much richer especially China and are markets with which we can potentially trade on better terms out of the EU. |

50% youth unemployment in many countries and misery for the Mediterranean area.
Rioting over immigration right across the continent and German people furious at having to bail out everybody else. The EU is an absolute shambles. I reckon we got out just in time. |

Little Sturgeon must be out of her tiny mind talking to anyone who'll listen to her on about staying in the mess.

eu will bail out sturgeon if they remain in eu and leave uk
whats not to like ? |

I reckon we got out just in time.
Absolutely right Dr Crippen. I reckon there must be many over there looking enviously across the Channel and wishing it was their country leaving too. |
|
By:
No they won't.
They would if we were still in. They'd have given her some of our cash. Now were out she'll have to whistle for it the same as the Greeks. |
|
By:
Yes Foinavon.
The EU has failed. It's just a matter of time before it breaks up. |
|
By:
On the contrary, Dr Crippen. The rest of Europe has seen then that the UK has impoverished itself by7% _ now10%
As a good European, I have warned everyone who would listen on the continent of the dangers of Brexit. |

Immigration doesn't bother me. Never have, never will provided those immigrants share the same civic values as me - toleration, the desire to work hard and get on, abiding by the rule of British law, speaking English and integrating with the British way of life - then they can come in their droves.
I was voting for my kids futures basically. I don't want to be a member of a grey, conformist, protectionist, unaccountable club. I want true diversity, - Britain, Germany, France, Poland, Italy etc all co-operating yes, but celebrating what makes them unique - not a pretend one based on one-size fits all, centrally dictated policies and whether it's easier for graduates to Interail round Europe easier in their gap year. |

the right to trade with anyone without permissions. less restrictive rules and laws. another tier of government, they say they deal with 60 percent of all laws? why not 100 percent get rid of parliament, the elected representatives? |

I would expect to do the same if I lived anywhere else in the world, but that's not incompatible with bringing and sharing and enjoying my own culture and religious values. I'm puzzled you should think otherwise - oh I see! You're deliberately mischief-making! Oh in that case.... ![]() indeed! |

It just read a bit like an "I'm not racist but..." (not calling you racist btw).
You say immigration doesn't bother you but immediately follow it up with "those immigrants" and then all the rules you want to impose on anyone coming here. Seems a little contradictory to me. |

Cheers PoP
I don't think you'll find many that don't want to impose some rules or express some opinion on the type of immigrant they want to come to the UK. The logical endgame to that is that we just have one country called 'Planet Earth' which might be nice for the hippies, but then you have things like ISIS and criminals etc to deal with. I was (probably ham-fistedly as it turns out) making the point that 'blood and soil' nationalism (fk it, 'racism') can go die for me. I hope my 'rules' as you call them are actually nothing more than shared aims / beliefs of anyone making the excellent choice to base themselves in the UK. |
