Iraq war for me.  by some distance.  Puts privatisation and a few closed mines into perspective when you consider 100,000 dead (some say a million) and the continuing problems going on in the middle east now.

I don't think there are any other contenders, unless Brexit goes hideously wrong, and even then there'd be a lack of real culpability.

Brexit would have to result in civil war/war in europe for it to be a bigger crime than the War in Iraq imo.

The Iraq war would have happened without Britain, we were just  there to add credibility.

How  not joining in would have changed things today in Britain I'm not sure.

You cant blame the Government for Brexit. There was a referendum with a  huge turnout.

Iraq would have been invaded with or without UK involvement.

Im quite happy with the Blair and Cameron Governements tbh

One cannot say for certain whether Iraq would have been invaded or not with any certainty.
We were only invited in to add credibility and legitimacy as Thin and Crispy posted.

I believe America would have invaded anyway without us, but one can never be certain?

The whole thing was morally wrong, and has resulted in the most appalling loss of human life in Iraq

still continuingSad.

Britain was only partly responsible for the war, but hundreds of thousands died. That's sick, and only seems less so because it's actually quite hard to get your head around.

Participating in a gang rape is worse than single-handedly stealing someone's laptop even if the former would have happened anyway.

Ignoring the UN, France,Germany and even Russia who voted agin us and going to war with Iraq and its aftermath to satisfy a wide eyed Zealot who should be at the Hague next week.

everyone reading this thread was born way before 2003 so there is no contender to Iraq.

Expenses scandal in the top 3 though.

Tories getting elected is worse than 100,000 (absolute minimum estimate) dead?  There you have it, so blinded by their hatred of the tories are so many of these lefties that they don't care about 100,000 dead based on a pack of lies by one of their own because at least we didn't close the mines.

Unbelievable.

Poor Ian Mohammed. He can't stop himself can he?  Rank bad judgement.

I wasn't surprised to see a certain person on here earlier this week throwing the word 'racist' around like confetti at a same-sex marriage, before a Moderator belatedly removed it. He's got form for it. The thread concerned a political party leader. I won't repeat the libel here.

I'd like to see those who throw the word 'racist' around to be investigated for Hate Speech as a minimum requirement. Better still, be made to stand in a court and defend themselves in a libel case.

It wasn't putting troops into Iraq which was the problem. There's a good argument that going into the Middle East with trained soldiers was a better option in 2003 than sitting back and letting representatives of the Religion of Peace come to you and fly aircraft into your buildings. The subsequent years have actually been remarkably free of Islamic atrocities in the West, certainly nothing comparable with 9/11.

What was stupid was thinking that you could then purge the entire government and civil service which had kept the country functioning under Saddam, and watch a new system miraculously arise of its own accord.

There was the lesson of Germany and Austria in 1945, where the Allied generals on the ground simply allowed the same local people, mostly Nazi Party members, who had efficiently been organizing barbarity for a decade, carry on, only this time organizing democracy and civilization. It worked brilliantly. People just did their job, keeping life ticking over, just as they had for the Nazis. But whether through ignorance, ideology, faith or idleness, nobody seemed to be aware of that lesson in the case of Iraq, never mind put it into action. Hence the subsequent misery.

He won three consecutive General Elections with massive Parliamentary majorities. Yet it's virtually impossible now to find anyone who voted for him (and presumably therefore applauded the Iraq invasion).

The reason 9/11 has not happened again is because of improved aircraft security, nothing else.
As for no terrorism or terrorism threat, you seem to have forgotten Paris and failed to notice the ISIS threat to us!

Lesson learned in 1945?

We should have attacked Germany before1939????????????????????

We were in an even worse state to stack before 1939 than we were in 1939.
The mistake was to neglect our own defence that was all.

If you really believe attacking other countries before they become strong enough to threaten us, we will never stop
having wars will we, because we will have to keep attacking other countries????????????????????????????????????????

Two good posts.I might add this bit "The subsequent years have actually been remarkably free of Islamic atrocities in the West, certainly nothing comparable with 9/11." is ridiculous.Terrorist threat has greatly increased since 9-11.

Tony Blair - Meant to be 'NEW LABOUR' but seemed more like 'New Tory'

Cemented all of Thatcher's Policies.
Stripped all the benefits down to underpants - no safety net.
Started wars for oil.
Started the PFI bullsheet.
Sold the Gold.

All 'NEW LABOUR'

reminds you of superman 3 when he goes bad.

Tony got some bad green and turned bad.

Something had to be done but it just went too far.
