I have never been a supporter of the first past the post voting system, because it never takes into consideration the concerns of the losing side and in this case that is basically half the country it is grossly unfair and divisive, and to make things worse the winners be it Labour or the Conservatives, they always indulge in policies that disproportionately hurt the other side and their supporters. This is why British politics has always been highly confrontational and counterproductive. We have tit for tat politics that breeds spiteful politicians, whose primary objective is not run and improve our country it is to inflict as much damage on the opposition and their supporters.

I'm sorry but that is just garbage.
Example: A common gripe of lefties is that IDS was out to hurt the poor just because he could. I read his white paper about Universal Credit and the benefits it would bring to the poor. That document demonstrates how he supports the poor and was putting in policies that would have real benefit to them.

under first past the post every vote does not count and there are many seats that are always labour or tory.
the unelected house of lords should also be abolished imo.
sadly many of those who complained about how undemocratic the eu is dont really care about our outdated system of government.
i doubt this thread will get many comments.

The problem with PR is nothing ever seems to get done. Too many inputs means too much bureaucracy. We've used PR in NI for many years but it's like the People's Front of Judea. Things get kicked about that are important for people, schools, education even a bloody sports stadium have been used as pawns as nobody can agree. Recently the Ulster Unionists and SDLP have moved into opposition against Sinn Fein and the DUP. Time will tell but I think our government will be better for it.
Despite being viled across the free World, Dictatorships get things done. China is thriving because they're a Dictatorship that has adopted a Capitalist approach. First Past the Post with Capitalism hgas served us well and put the Great into Great Britain.
