not that it wasnt very good, but it just exactly the same as the records. and he has zero stage presence, especially with those bloody shades on
By:
Heard 3 songs, thought they were just getting into their stride and then they were....gone!
By:
It takes a lot of skill to sound as good as your records playing live on stage!
By:
^ and one major load of talent.

Bob Dylan in Glasgow SEC 20 odd years ago was the last guy to play live like a record.
Mind, he was complete pants in Newcastle Arena in 2004! |

How many 10,000s in the crowd?
By:
supertramp were just as good sounding like their records, and like trilby says you've got to be very good to do it
By:
If i want guys to play live like on record, i'll just stay home and listen to the record. Must get boring for a guy to be playing the same versions of songs for that past 40 years...why not try and mix it up a bit
By:
He didn't play live at all from 1986 to 2014.

no gentlemanjohn went to see them at the 02,and the quality was such ive not seen a better gig in many a year

Fair point |

Fair enough terry, we all look for different things. I've seen van morrison play a lot, not in recent years, and one thing I love about Van is he doesn't sing the songs like he does on record. In fact no two performances are hardly ever the same, he adds bits, ad libs..new guitar solos, he shakes it up, probably to keep it interesting for himself as for the fans.
By:
but then I saw van in brighton and he was on stage for about 50minutes, so although he is no doubt a master,he sure p1ssed me off that night

Jeff Lynne.

Sorry mate, I'm on catch-up here (Scotland). I was thinking at one stage you might be meaning Bob Lynne ,,, he was never the same after that White Spliffs of Dover song ... imo.

Its funny, i always hear people saying how hit and miss Van can be and what a prickly **** he can be, but i'd estimate i have seen him 7 or 8 times and he was a hit every time. I'm sure i even saw him laugh one night, although the lights were dimmed so could just as easily ahve been a grimace ![]() |
