I write for a living, now mostly self-publishing because that's where the money is. It used to be the case that there was no VAT on books sold in Britain. That still applies to paperbacks (for the time being) but the EU has forced the British government to apply 20% VAT to ebooks like the Kindle.

This means that a book that once would have sold for £1.50 now retails at £1.80. That's not an "attractive" price so I would put it out at £1.99 whereas it should really go out at £1.49. The customer now pays an extra third, which reduces sales and therefore income.

Not a Directive but Facebook, You Tube, Microsoft and Twitter signing up to a Code of Conduct outlining (a non-defined) hate speech and where "where European values and laws are respected” will be potentially interesting

The Prime Directive SadAngry

Often when visiting alien planets, I want to intervene to save them from some interesting weekly disaster, but I can't!
It's political correctness gone mad!

If I did violate it, that ***t Junker would take my ship off me, and my mating privileges with Green women Scared.

Report Injera June 23, 2016 7:49 PM BST
Of course not. The goal is to give all EU citizens the same rights. Nice idea but utterly flawed. History tells us the erosion of individual sovereignity nearly always ends in tears/trouble/bloodshed.

The EU wants to remove all national identity whether that's Spanish, Polish or British.

burton brewers - no-one, not even the EU forces you to use or buy LED bulbs.  Although you might want to though given the cost savings.

Side bar: LED bulbs are 1000 times better than the sh*t old energy saving bulbs, I recommend them.
Nothing to do with the EU though, though it was them that banned the old filament ones.
I've a dimmer light with a filament, not sure if LED bulbs would work in that, the others didn't.
