"BHS £571 million pensions shortfall. I wonder where it went?
Bought BHS for £82 million in 2000 and sold it for £1 last year
Avoided up to £160 million of UK tax payments while raking in hundreds of millions from BHS
Received £609 million from the retail chain through a combination of dividend payouts, rent and interest on loans.
Meanwhile, Green is set to take delivery of his latest super yacht, a £100 million floating palace. Lady Tina lives on the other one in Monaco. She is reported to have bought Sir Philip a £7 million Gulfstream jet and £250,000 gold Monopoly set for one birthday."

imo, he should be jailed, but of course he will not be.
If I recall correctly he offered to chuck in around 50-70 million previously and they turned it down. The indication from this, is presumably that they intend to persuade him to chuck in more.

These HOC committee enquiries are an embarassing waste of time, showing how intellectually challenged most mps are, jealous after timers who rarely know anything about the subject theyre investigating or the real world in general. The fact remains that irrespective of how unsavoury a character Green is,hes done nothing illegal.

"Sir Philip has been careful not to let any increased offer he is prepared to make to the PPF slip into the public domain. Ever the trader, he knows that, should he offer, say, £250 million, the PPF would seek to bid him up to £300 million. However, during his evidence to the committees last week, Alan Rubenstein, chief executive of the PPF, told MPs that the sum he would be looking to recover for the BHS schemes would be £275 million."

"Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia Group is working on a proposal to try to rescue the BHS pension fund as the billionaire prepares to face a parliamentary inquiry today.
The Times understands that Britain’s pensions regulator has been made aware that Arcadia is trying to find a solution for the 20,000 members in the BHS scheme but has yet to present a formal plan.
It is thought unlikely that Sir Philip will make any significant announcement on the BHS pension today during his appearance before the joint work and pensions and business, innovations and skills committees. However, he is likely to be questioned about on his willingness to invest in the BHS pension scheme, which, using the worst-case “buyout” valuation, has a deficit of £571 million.

A source close to the parliamentary committees investigating BHS was sceptical of any concessions from Sir Philip on the pension: “I think he probably will [offer some sort of commitment], but it will still leave most of the risk with the PPF, involve a guarantee from Taveta [the parent company of Arcadia], which many people might not put much value on, and does nothing for unsecured creditors, including SME suppliers and the taxpayer.”

he's a modern day robber baron but he's not daft so unlikely to have done anything illegal.

what pensions, legal or accountancy experience and qualifications do the MPs on this committee have? they should have such experts on hand to guide their questioning.

The Times also report today :-

The billionaire’s appearance comes a day after Britain’s Serious Fraud Office confirmed that it was “reviewing material” related to BHS and could launch a formal criminal investigation.
The national fraud agency is understood to be looking at events that took place during the period BHS was owned by Retail Acquisitions, as well as when Sir Philip bought and owned it.
A spokesman for the SFO said: “The SFO confirms it is reviewing material in its possession. If the director considers there are reasonable grounds to suspect serious or complex fraud which meets his criteria, he will open a criminal investigation.”
Report jollyswagman • June 15, 2016 11:45 AM BST
one of the problems is the regulators and prosecutors arent staffed by the brightest and best as the poachers pay better than the game keepers and offer better careers. sadly i wouldnt have much faith in the sfo to get to the bottom of this mess.
