What's a religion? sounds like a club?

my belief doesn't belong to the Catholics, Protestants or the jewish people. The Anglicans or the Presbyterians or any other splinter group that say they hold the keys to the kingdom.
Religions are horse ****. Christ did not ask for club membership. A taming of his word. A polite assembly?

The religion set up by Jim Jones probably not one of the better ones.

No.

There's been surveys done of what constitutes British values - a sense of fair play, supporting underdogs, tolerance, and being able to take a joke came out as popular choices. On the basis that those are 'good' values and not sharing those values is 'bad' then there are clear differences between religions.
One thing you can say about the Ahmadis, the big-noses and the Church of England who are investing in google is they can take a joke. With some other cults, you have to be careful what you say.

Any religion that is based on "God telling people how to live their lives" (usually through the medium of an insane man having hallucinations centuries ago and writing them down) is inherently dangerous.

Jesus existed just as Muhammad existed. They are historical figures. Satan the ruling spirit, the king of this world(look around you, were do you think you are?) Just lost the game. Jesus won the victory,   .
So Satan's set out his stall with many other choices. Counterfeits. If you think something might be fake you scrutinize all the choices. You push and pull at the fabric. You look for the maker's mark. You test every word. Prophecy is a strong component of the jewish/christian texts. 2000 prophecies that are fulfilled is one heck of a betting record. Try that as an accumulator. pick ten horses in a row? but 2000?

Forgot the new CELEBRITY religion. Fans. Who live their lives worshiping footballers or movie stars. Buy brands and can't live unless they touch their hero.

Reaction of David Bowie's death and then Prince? Clearly a religion.
Report Foinavon May 22, 2016 11:11 PM BST
Zorro, for every website you find claiming fulfilled prophesies you can easily find another debunking them. It pointless you posting that sort of bullshine on here.
Paul claimed that the end of the world was nigh and that people alive at that time would see the second coming within their lifetimes. I think Jesus preached something similar. Well it didn't happen and it still hasn't happened after nearly 2000 years yet people are still prepared to believe they will see it.

Organised religion is divisive, dangerous and based on the ramblings of conmen who lived a long time ago.
Report Owmybrainhurtz May 22, 2016 11:35 PM BST
I certainly agree with you there, akabula. As a Christian, I would certainly never have anything to do with "Organised religion".

I have no real belief ombh but would not decry anyone who has.
When younger I went to church but only because my parents made me go.
To hear preachers talk of a God of love us just ridiculous given the horrors of this world.

All religions bar one are religions of conversion.

All religions bar one are despised by the trendy Lefties.

The new favoured religion is the most barbaric of them all and is a religion of conquest.

touche turtle - mr fionavon.

Thus Paul counsels one group of early Christians not be "unsettled or alarmed" by teaching "that the day of the Lord has already come" ( 2 Thess 2:2 ).

In what is certainly one of his earliest surviving letters, 1 Thessalonians, Paul devotes attention to the problem of believers who had died.
Apparently some of the early Christians thought that these people would miss out on the wonders when Christ returns. Paul says that on the contrary, when Jesus returns they will be with him; the living will have no precedence.

THEREFORE those alive at the time of jesus' ministery will see the coming of the son of man.Devil

NOT RELIGIOUS - I am not a member of a club? I belong to Jesus - I accept he made me and has dominion over me. I do not recognize any other authority over me.

All sins are forgiven, past and future.

But that does not mean I should sin intentionally, but there will be times when my emotions could lead me astray.

I have no intention of becoming a priest or a monk. No man can live up to the law. That's why God's solution was Jesus and Grace.

"all sins are forgive, past and future"

this statement alone illustrates the utter stupidity of religion...........your a man of jesus but then your basically saying you can sin if you want to, because it will be forgiven

i say obey the law and treat other people as you would like to be treated yourself

The LAW - OLD TESTAMENT ... God gives Moses the ten commandments, out of that we get thousands of laws today. No man can stand before the law and claim righteousness. (it's been estimated that every man breaks the law in some way three times a day. Did you spit outside, drop some rubbish, feed the birds bread, beep a car horn after seven pm)
AFTER a thousand years with laws, god gives us the messiah.
GRACE - NEW TESTAMENT. no more an eye for an eye(compensation by law).
Jesus says to the pharisees - "What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you shut the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people's faces. You won't go in yourselves, and you don't let others enter either.

I do not sin intentionally. I do not want to sin. But I live in Satan's kingdom. I will be tempted and I might sin. That does not mean that I am lost to Christ. He took all my sins at the cross. I renew my faith in Christ who covers me, making me blameless.

If i go out tomorrow with the intention of sinning, ignoring Christ's teaching with a savage intent.. then I'm a hypocrite.

some things are characterized as sinning - sex, gambling and eating fatty foods. Pleasure isn't sin. On that thinking PAIN would be saintly.

most people reject Jesus because they don't think their sins should be forgiven. Some are too proud, some are too ashamed. God does not want the proud. He administers to the sinners. Not the self righteous.

----
Matthew Henry Commentary
9:10-13 Some time after his call, Matthew sought to bring his old associates to hear Christ. He knew by experience what the grace of Christ could do, and would not despair concerning them. Those who are effectually brought to Christ, cannot but desire that others also may be brought to him. Those who suppose their souls to be without disease will not welcome the spiritual Physician. This was the case with the Pharisees; they despised Christ, because they thought themselves whole; but the poor publicans and sinners felt that they wanted instruction and amendment. It is easy, and too common, to put the worst constructions upon the best words and actions. It may justly be suspected that those have not the grace of God themselves, who are not pleased with others' obtaining it. Christ's conversing with sinners is here called mercy; for to promote the conversion of souls is the greatest act of mercy. The gospel call is a call to repentance; a call to us to change our minds, and to change our ways. If the children of men had not been sinners, there had been no need for Christ to come among them. Let us examine whether we have found out our sickness, and have learned to follow the directions of our great Physician.
