European Commission boss Jean-Claude Juncker has warned the UK that "deserters won’t be welcomed back with open arms".
In hard-hitting comments, which have sparked accusations of intimidation among eurosceptics, he said the UK would "have to bear the consequences" if it voted to quit the 28-member bloc.
In the event of Britain breaking away, it "would be considered a third party and one we won’t suck up to", he added.
The tough-talking by the commission president is set to inflame the already rancorous referendum campaign being waged in the UK.
In an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde, Mr Juncker said: "Deserters won’t be welcomed back with open arms.
Not sure what the point of comments like this are.
1. it's not going to convince the undeciders to vote remain, they will be patronised by the scaremongering tactic. 2. it's only going to reinforce out voters that voting out is a must if that's the sort of attitude of EU's leaders.
If the remain campaigners were smart, they'd understand that trying to scare people has a negative effect. Instead they are given off the impression of bullies and dictators.
Still think the remain vote will win, as does the betting.

the only polls that show 50/50 ish are the yougov, mori etc etc of this world. all these companies got the general election wrong. the president of yougov is the husband of catherine ashton and both a very vested interest in us remaining. the last poll for the london evening standard that showed remain 18 points ahead with 55% polled only 1002 people and only in london. this is no sample size at all. not to mention if remain can only get 55% in london then they are truly done for anyway. this poll seems to have caused the recent tumblein the remain price. madness is my opinion and a massive -EV to be punting based on that.
a few years back when john prescott was trying to convince the people of the north east to vote his way in their referendum for a regional assembly every poll prior to the event was 50/50 ish or a slight lead for the assemblies to get the green light. they lost 73% to 27% - polls either dead wrong and dead useless when it comes to referendums or polls **** to show the result that is desired.

56% of Britons would vote to quit EU in referendum, poll finds
Well over half of British voters now want to leave the European Union, according to an opinion poll that shows anti-EU sentiment is sweeping through all three main political parties.
The Opinium/Observer survey finds that 56% of people would probably or definitely vote for the UK to go it alone if they were offered the choice in a referendum. About 68% of Conservative voters want to leave the EU, against 24% who want to remain; 44% of Labour voters would probably choose to get out, against 39% who would back staying in, while some 39% of Liberal Democrats would probably or definitely vote to get out, compared with 47% who would prefer to remain in the EU.
