A very sad nation who took the wrong turn.

The European Union aspires to become the USA. The sad truth is the US is the epitomy of everything humanity should be desperate to avoid becoming.
The truth is the "Leave campaign" should be using the US as the prime example of what the EU will become if allowed to continue. The detachment of the normal man and woman on the street from politicians in Washington is incredible. There is no democracy, just some group of self entitled 5cum who spend billions getting power. The recession of 2008 taught one thing, that when something becomes too big, it becomes unmanageable. One of the most depressing things I see when i travel Europe is the slow infiltration and destruction of Local culture. Local shops, ways of life etc.. are destroyed in order that McDonalds, Starbucks etc can move in....an utter tragedy. Politicians and the US in particular don't want multi culturism, they want mono-culturism. The US is a soulless dump of a country which sold itself out years ago |

FFS, Hyperbole much? Worse than I.S.? North Korea? Burma? Saudi? Most countries in the middle east and Africa? Right now you could easily pick quite a few dozen worse countries. Not to mention historically the Nazis or Soviet Union or China during the cultural revolution, or many examples of communist and fascist scum down the years. Have you seen much of the US or get this view from the Guardian opinion section? |

I love America and American people. There is richness and poverty, intelligence and stupidity, success and failure in all its variations. They are nice and they are free.
I would rather be born and grow up in America and end up living on the streets in poverty, i would not fear that. But to be born and live, even in wealth, in a country such as Saudi or many others that easily come to mind, i would fear that. |

And then they have given us so much in science and art and literature and music and cinema and technology, there is so much beautiful culture and so many talented people.
Racingqueen mentions McDonalds, i am sorry but i don`t trust his judgement. |

I've read it at least three times, and I know exactly where I can find my copy again. On the same theme, try Stolen Continents by Ronald Wright. ..................................................................................... People forget they are made up of a load of foreigners who stole the land from its rightful inhabitants. Yes ebul, and most of the "foreigners" came from GB. |

I acknowledge that alias........that was what the British Empire was all about.
But people have also come there from all over the World, but they do have much history. Anybody tracing their roots has at a certain point go back to another country. I think America is too big, it is a pity in some ways the confederates did not break away, although I could not defend slavery. My current objection to America is I do not want them being the World Policeman and forcing their values on other countries. I would rather a world of separate countries each with their own culture and values. I know it increases the risk of war but I think that is a risk worth taking, the world as just one big country would be hell on earth in my opinion, I oppose this. |

Greed is the problem ebul, as ever. Capitalism if you like. The British Empire has a lot to answer for.

The point is, you would know the difference in the former, and you can bet your arse you'd come to fear it, but not necessarily in the latter, especially in wealth. |

You could quite easliy be describing the house of lords, except that most of them already are rich. |

It is not just the British Empire who were Capitalist Alias, but I notice America does take Capitalism to the extremes.
I prefer socialism because it is kinder. Although I accept socialism must be affordable. The mistake communism made was in trying to remove capitalism completely. China has redressed this, although it still holds to the one party ideology. Which is best for them at the moment. lfc1971 loves America, he won't hear a word against them, we all have our favourites I suppose. |

I just want America to accept other countries to be as they want to be. That is all I ask of them, it is not a lot.

No, but you might say they were world leaders in that respect. I just want America to accept other countries to be as they want to be. Back to greed. They want other countries to be what they want them to be, and to give up whatever riches they have to pay for the privilege. Look at Latin America, how many fascist regimes has the US propped up over the years? They'll tell you they're spreading democracy. ![]() |

It is the reason you are here today |

Ehrm? While I don't think it's the greatest country in the world surely it's pretty ok compared to most? If I were to make a list of all contries in the world in the order of how much I would like to live there (or be reincarnated there) it would deffo be in the top third. Above every single African country, and all muslim countries, and socialist paradises like Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea. Who would honestly rank it in the bottom half when you think about it?

For me it's mainly their gambling laws which keeps it a bit from the top:)
