yes one of many. should be scrapped

Only a problem if you make it so. I've got a licence but I know of one relation who hasn't.
They've called at his home twice. First time he wasn't in and the second time he told them he was too busy to answer questions and shut the door on them.
Report akabula May 17, 2016 8:23 PM BST
Meant to add to that - He's under the impression they cant do anything other than keep coming back.
Report bongo May 17, 2016 8:58 PM BST
Yes, as you get no representation for this form of taxation.
On the flip side, it is for practical purposes optional if you take one simple measure which is not to let anyone in from TVL.
Report crags May 17, 2016 9:04 PM BST
I don't believe in paying this, so I don't. Have a look on Facebook group that are like minded for some good info ;-)

I want to buy a TV that hasn't got any BBC channels, if there's any available. Then I could watch  Freeview  and spend my £145.50 on  hard drugs and prostitutes.
Report zorrostrikes May 18, 2016 12:47 PM BST
just close the door - don't feed the people with clipboards.
Report Burton-Brewers May 18, 2016 12:55 PM BST
not for me I hate VAT the most

He is correct.
The only way this ends up in court with a fine is if you sign to admit that you was watching a TV without a licence.
Ignoring them works.

Although i used a legal trespass loophole in writing were i denied the agents access to my property. They kindly corresponded back to show their concern that i was not satisfied with their service and that they would from here on in no longer bother me for at least 2 years.
I have also not received anymore written correspondence from TV Licencing since.
Report macarony May 19, 2016 11:21 AM BST
The TV licence reverse Robin Hood robs the poor to pay the rich, who in turn employ unscrupulous accountancy tactics to avoid paying tax out of salary generated via other people's taxes.
The ultimate in rubbing salt into a wound.
Report Jack Hacksaw May 19, 2016 11:32 AM BST
Its more visible than say, VAT, where typical families spend thousands a year.

VAT on gas and electricity, which are pretty much essential, is wrong.
Report FatherMaguire May 19, 2016 5:22 PM BST
No issue with it at all - would happily pay double
Report akabula May 19, 2016 6:04 PM BST
I'm sure all non-payers are with you Father and would happily dodge paying double.

I pay it and I do like some stuff the BBC does and watch it. But that thing I read this week that Eddie Mair, a radio news reader I hadn't even heard of, is paid £425,000, that makes me so angry. That's 3 times what the Prime Minister gets paid.
You don't sell and syndicate radio news same way as say Top Gear or The Frozen Planet. It's a jaw dropping waste of our money. It's a ****ing scandal.
Report scandanavian_haven May 19, 2016 7:33 PM BST
I guess to answer my own question, the poll tax was more hated, too young to remember it but seen the riots
Report Just Checking May 19, 2016 8:07 PM BST
The riots was the usual suspects though, dirty socialist worker types that would now join Corbyn Labour or the Greens, probably don't pay the license, and quite like the BBC as it's left of centre anyway.
Report ZenMaster May 19, 2016 8:58 PM BST
The socialist worker types would be completely against the Murdoch alternative that they would fully support a tax to preserve the BBC.

Those who oppose a taxation without representation are more likely to be far removed from those left leanings.
Report scandanavian_haven May 19, 2016 9:00 PM BST
lol, did you do a quick survey then when the riots were happening, walking around with your clipboard asking them to put down their bricks and broken bottles for a second to ask what their politics wereLaugh
Report Just Checking May 19, 2016 9:09 PM BST
Oh FFS it's same as ever, like the recent riots of a similar nature, same sort of tw*t.

Lots of daily mail and telegraph banners there arent' there? Maybe they are hidden behind the "Militant" and "socialist worker" banners. Plenty more similar pictures oddly enough on the "socialistparty" web site, quite surprising as you'd think it would be a piece of hisrory more heavily featured on the Ascot womens institute historical roundup.

BBC budget for BBC one - £117,000 per hour. Value for money.
Report Coachbuster May 20, 2016 2:23 PM BST
BBC cash should come via its many adverts - why are folk paying on top of this ?
Report Mr.Anderson May 20, 2016 3:11 PM BST
Not many countries mentioned so far given how the original question is worded...

Sweden: No, it's not the most hated tax. Very little whining about it.
Denmark/Norway/Finland: Pretty sure it's not the most hated tax in those countries either.

You need a license if you watch any live programmes from any country in the world on tv, andriod or internet.
Report scandanavian_haven May 20, 2016 6:15 PM BST
ITV is free, that is value.

yeah that's true tmm, but atm we're paying for one station, the rest of paying for themselves, I'm not sure though what the difference in cost would be if we paid a license fee to the government instead? the same?

Should be if you * receive * any live programmes.
If you are receiving them but not watching them should you pay?
Report breadnbutter May 20, 2016 6:30 PM BST
no such thing as live tv ,and no you dont need a licence ,purely optional if you follow the basics and help prevent the spread of liberal wishy washy leftist propaganda including the covering up of  peados ,sex pests ,terrorists and other such scum
Report zorrostrikes May 20, 2016 6:34 PM BST
