The good news is there a two new films in the pipeline.

The bad news is that the writers are Susan Nickson (Two Pints) and Tim Dawson (some other dreadful BBC3 sitcom).

...and of course, the other bad news is that most of the great characters associated with the films are no longer with us.

Also most of the original humour will not be permitted these days because it would be inappropriate.

Will probably be very vanilla and boring efforts.

you are dead right travelling man - as BB says a waste of time.

...but the lefties will love it, because it will be the pc thing to do
to laugh at this updated vastly restricted unfunny nonsense that it'll be.

Must be a part for Boris surely.
I saw some of these in the 60s and never found them funny so won't be making any effort to see the new stuff.

After the shocker that was Carry on Columbus you'd think they'd leave it well and truly buried.

"After the shocker that was Carry on Columbus you'd think they'd leave it well and truly buried."

Absolutely !  There was almost a 15 year gap between Carry On Emmannuelle (which was pretty bad) and Carry On Columbus. Those 2 films were really a sad end to the series, they started to lose their way and really fizzled out in the 70's.

Trying to bring them back and making Carry On Columbus may have seemed a good idea at the time but turned out to be a bad idea and a flop. One reason it did not work was because most of the original actors had gone to the Carry On in the sky, and they were replaced by stand-up comedians. But the originals were great character actors, it was cheeky comedy with seaside postcard type humour. Carry On Columbus was a lot more crude. It was a bad idea back then to make another, and even worse idea now to make another one. These films were as good as finished in the 70's.

I never watched Carry on Columbus after I heard all the bad reviews, but I did have a look at the cast and character names. Not even the character names were in the old style that was also part of the fun. Gladstone Screwer would be turning in his grave.

This November marks the centenary of the birth of Talbot Rothwell, our nation's greatest man of letter since Shakespeare. Will be a travesty if his memory is insulted by this project.
