Paddington had a Ladbrokes when I could still afford via London tickets, but that's a long time ago.
Serious punters used to use the Hills over the road, as that had a quiet lounge with a sofa. I remember in spring 1991 bumping into Fremantle there one morning when Worcester had been cancelled, and debating whether to make for Heathrow for a flight up to Hamilton, the only British course he hadn't visited at that time, or to play it safe and get a train to Exeter for a midweek point on Oliver Carter's land at Ottery. On the basis I knew even less about Flat racing than I did about pointing we headed for Devon, and drew up in a taxi just in time to get a tip for some nag trained by Jimmy Frost (rather than the name on the racecard). Ended the day about a pony up after the exes, which paid for dinner in the dining car on the way back. Happy, happy days. |

Mine was meant to say Victoria not Vitoria
![]() If you need the toilet there you will have to pay for the privileged, or you could just cross the road into Victoria street and use McDonalds for nothing. One of life's bug bears. having to pay to p***. |
