I applied for a job with a local college recently and the bottom of the application form said something along the lines of 'in the interest of equality any candidates from ethnic minorities or with disabilities would be given preference'.

As I'm just a po' white English boy I don't hold out much hope.

I am surprised this is not illegal, if the advertisement states this

It must contradict the race equality act

If they were advertising roles for black or Asian actors that is fair enough

Pro discrimination is always wrong, it just creates bad feeling.

Maternity leave is pro discrimination for women, since men do not get pregnant. Paternity leave is hardly the solution

since that discriminates against non parents.

Reporting the truth would be a start for that mob of scum.

Will white applicants be accepted is they IDENTIFY as black or Asian though?  After all, we know from the Lefties that it's how you IDENTIFY that matters.

Certainly a valid point, now we live in a non gender world it would be hard for them to say you are a certain race. But we know they would have double standards regarding this.

Hang on, this isn't actually the BBC is it?  This is an independant recruitment organisation (with an agenda, and charity status!!) who claim to be able to place a race-selective group of applicants into open BBC positions.

They are BBC positions being advertised, another reason why half a million people now

refuse to pay a licence fee to this rancid organisation.

Hello "chelsea girl", not sure if you are responding to my post, but the fact that these are BBC positions is not the point given that they (BBC) are not offering the positions. Someone, unrelated(?) to the BBC is offering specialist treatment for particular ethnic groups.  Do you have any insight into this particular issue that would be helpful??

Blackbarn, the job was an administration role overseeing student enrolment at York College and the paragraph in question was at the bottom of the application form, c&p below:

We encourage applications from people in under represented groups who are looking for new and challenging career opportunities. To achieve this, black and ethnic minority applicants who meet the essential criteria outlined in the person specification will be shortlisted for interview.
