Finishing A levels, heading off to Uni, few mates with minted parents who were always away so a decent house party every weekend, fumbling around on settees, and ridiculous hairstyles - like this;

I got called out(work) in the middle of the night the other day when they played a top 20 from 1979 & 1989, my god it was good. The top 20 from 1979 was world class.

70s with Glam Rock, Bowie and Punk + the emergence of Kate Bush are a winner for me. 60s a close second and some memorable bands from the 80s like The Smiths and 90s Oasis.Lots more from those decades of course but the 70s take Gold.

As has been mentioned it's all subjective but I discovered music in the 80's quite late in life actually and find myself still enjoying it to this day.

The only time I ever saw A Flock Of Seagulls (opening track on this thread) was at the Electric Ballroom, Camden Town, just before Christmas 1979. They were fourth on the bill behind the Bunnymen, the Teardrops and Scritti Politti, and their set comprised a lengthy, but ultimately failed attempt at tuning up before traipsing off in disgust amidst an exchange of abuse with the front row.

Who would have predicted then that it was they and their pioneering, non-sexist haircuts which would go on to define the next miserable decade?

the eighties was utter crappola. Thatcher got in in 1979 and killed the soul of the country with greed. All those share offers. Then the new romantics. Fake pop music from advertisers like Wakeman. Huge Coal lorries whizzing past doors to crush the miners.Government turning the working class into criminals. The eighties was putrid. the RISE OF FAKE.

Fleet Foxes - Mykonos

Absolutely rancid time,the music was beyond a joke well 90% of it were my teenage years and stayed in as hated everything about it,made my appearence in the late 80s when things music etc started to get really interesting.
There was absolutely no choice on tv but to watch the some old drivel week in week out and of course virtually no channels or late tv,the same applied to the diets absolutely abysmal.Then of course the fashion which was laughable,the late 80s and 90s were a fantastic time revolution in different genres of music,more thigngs to do clubs,raves etc and just a real do as you like attitude absolutely fantastic enjoyed myself for 10 years every weekend..ShockedCool

Mykonos is a lovely song. I'd not heard of Fleet Foxes before.

I love these music threads because we get to hear music that we might never come across, otherwise.

I think there is great music from all the decades.

I usually only listen to music when driving, exercising or at work.
In my car I listen to allsorts,from Helen Shapiro to Pitbull. I have just orederd 100% Clubland (that's for exercising to but I love that sort of music).

I will post a great song from the sixties that I only heard for the first time the otherday, at work, while playing musical chairs Excited Love

Will have to find it...brb

It misses the 80s by one year. What a brilliant song.

I don't think you will find a decade that had more genres of music than the 70's, but the 80's was the sound of my youth that is why I like it. I stopped listening to chart music around 87 as then it stopped appealing to me.
