Either, all pencils are produced with the lead inside broken into bits every 0.5 centimeters, or the pencil sharpener manufacturers only put in blunt blades to protect children from harm, or I am doing something wrong, and have been for over 40 years. I remember at school the teacher had a mechanical one on his desk with different sized holes and a crank handle. Maybe I should invest in one of those. Angry

I agree with The Coat.

Pencil sharpeners aren't what they used to be.

It's the quality of the wood they use in cheap pencils.

I sometimes sharpen the crayons at work. They are very good quality.

They must be if you are waxing lyrical about them

I use a pen knife to sharpen pencils. If anyone's interested. Wink

no that's it. It's a fact - not an overture.

fascinating stuff eh?

Its important how you write with a pencil, and use clean, smooth paper. Why else are there so many stationary stores?
When writing your elbows can`t fly around too wildly.
Perhaps this is the problem.

Thanks HH, sorry to take so long to reply, I'm live tweeting this as it comes in.

great stuff

To write with a pencil and not damage it you have to be able to sit still. Otherwise nothing else is more likely to damage the pencil. Does the OP set it down gently and carefully?
A pencil should be pleasant to use and to read.
Writing something thoughtful with a pencil is good, but too many thoughts are something you should avoid.

There's a good reason why so many stores are stationary, lfc1971.

I prefer crayons - to be honest I've no choice, as where I live we're not allowed to play with anything sharp.
